Crowd gather around drunk police officer as he is unable to rise up from the ground (video)

A South African police officer is seen in a video amidst a huge crowd jostling to catch a glimpse of him as he was so drunk that he could not walk.

The uniformed police officer is seen in the video sitting on the ground, speaking incoherently to a huge crowd gathered around him.

The viral video sparked a debate online after Twitter parody account Man's Not Barry Roux shared it on its handle with a caption: "This uniform must be respected."

While some people thought the officer is just a human being like any other person and so might have personal issues, others thought he had no excuse to get so intoxicated, once he was in uniform.

Social media user @Malum_uncle commented: "He's got problems too, he's human after all. Police officer or not, it's a crazy job - worse in this Satafrika of ours," Briefly.co.za quoted him as saying.

Another tweep, @BakalaFrederic, added: "Unpopular opinion: He was supposed to be on duty to safeguard people's life but he's drunk on duty. @SAPS should put a counseling team to look after its employees. It seems as if many are going through a lot to get drunk on uniform like this!"

Twitter user, @ben_apple5, said: "Sometimes this uniform can mean too much stress and trauma."
