He said the planning committee veered off the usual practice of awarding a three-bedroom house worth $100,000 to the overall best farmer.
Speaking on Accra FM, he said "The usual prize has been a three-bedroom house worth US$100,000, but we thought that it was not good enough to tie the farmer’s hand by providing him a house, and, so, it was better to give him this money so he can invest this money to his agricultural work."
December 1 is a day set to honour farmers of all categories for the role played to sustain the country.
The Day since time immemorial is observed as a holiday where outstanding farmers and fishermen are rewarded for their hard work by the state.

The occasion will be marked in Kumasi in the Ashanti region under the theme 'Farming for Food and Jobs'.
The overall best farmer will be given $100,000 dollars.
