Six killed in Suhum-Nsawam minibus and container crash

Six people have been confirmed dead after a minibus rammed into a container that had fallen off a truck at Teacher-Mante on the Suhum-Nsawam road on Saturday evening

It is unclear where the minibus was heading to but the container which fell off a truck was carrying logs from Kumasi to Accra.

The crash happened at Teacher-Mante on the Suhum-Nsawam road around 2:00am Sunday dawn.

The container initially fell on a Toyota Land Cruiser but no significant causalities were recorded.

However, the container was left on the road until Sunday dawn around 2:00 am when the minibus rammed into it, resulting in the death of six people.

Police at the Ayensuano District said the accident victims were rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital where six of them were pronounced dead.

The District Police Commander, DSP Charles Ahiamale, noted that the Toyota minibus "ignored police signals to stop" before the accident.

He said the Police got to the scene [after the first crash] and made frantic efforts to get assistance from the Road Safety Commission and the Ghana Fire Service to assist them with a tow truck to remove the container from the road.
