A tomato seller who is also a nursing mother died instantly when a heavy metal fell on her from a high-rise building under construction at Makola on Thursday.
Akweley, a single mother of two with an 8-months old baby and a six-year-old child, was seated by the fence of the construction site when the metal fell on her.
Traders at the site have told Accra-based Adom FM, that they saw three of the workers carrying the heavy metal to the top of the building, where they apparently dropped it due to its heavy weight.
"It landed straight on her head and she was bleeding from the nose. We tried to get her to the hospital but she was gone," another trader added.
Even though pedestrians and traders have been asked to keep off the area, many of them are often seen busily selling their wares in spite of the danger involved.
The traders have subsequently appealed to the construction firm to shift working hours on the project to evenings to enable them engage in their trade.
