US First Lady vows to give every girl on the planet an opportunity to be educated

America's First Lady, Michelle Obama, has vowed to give every female child in the world the same opportunity to be educated as herself and her daughters through the 'Let Girls Learn' global campaign.

America's First Lady, Michelle Obama, has vowed to give every female child in the world the same opportunity to be educated as herself and her daughters through the 'Let Girls Learn' global campaign.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Let Girls Learn global conversation hosted by Glamour magazine at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, Obama said getting girls educated is the key to solving many of the world’s ills.

“If we want to end global poverty, if we want to improve the plight of our country, educating girls is the key to all of that," Obama said

She lamented that there are 62 million girls worldwide who are unable to go to school and promised to work towards changing the status quo.

"So I think it’s imperative and it is a part of my passion and my mission to make sure that every girl on the planet has the same opportunity that I’ve had, that my daughters have."

The First Lady also advised young girls to excel in life first before worrying about boys.

"There is no boy at this age that is cute enough or interesting enough to stop you from getting your education.

“If I had worried about who liked me or who thought I was cute when I was your age, I wouldn’t be married to the President of the United States today."

The Let Girls Learn campaign, launched by the First Lady and her husband, promote projects promote girl education by tackling the socio-economic forces keeping girls out of school, including teen pregnancy, early marriage, economic pressures and negative cultural perception of female education.
