Lovers of Kumawood movies and Ghanaians in the diaspora can now watch their entire favourite and latest Ghanaian movies on their phones wherever they are through an app.

The move, which has been made possible through the collaboration between Kumawood film producers, MTEC-Communications, mobile apps developers and MTN, aims at launching the movie industry into the digital world.

Speaking at the launch of the app in Kumasi on Wednesday, the General Manger in charge of Consumer Marketing at MTN, Mr Noel Kojo-Garson said the collaboration was to put the Ghanaian movie industry, which is fast growing, into the limelight.

He believed that the initiative would reduce the cost of marketing and also allow others outside the country to enjoy the movies as soon as they are released.

“Consumers would have the opportunity to buy daily, weekly, monthly and annual packs to watch movies. It is relatively cheaper on the side of the customer and also remember that if we don’t make it cheap for the customer to be able to view, it is a volume gained. The more people you get on the platform, the better it is for the players within this App,” he stated.

On his part, the CEO of Kumawood Multimedia, Sam Darko, said the collaboration is laudable as it would help promote the movie industry and prevent piracy.

He indicated that more than 200 film producers were already on board and have agreed to upload their films onto the platform.

The CEO of MTEC Communications, the developers of the APP, Mr Chimeru Mbonu, said this was the first time such an APP has been developed for a movie industry in Africa.

He expressed hopes that the initiative would help market the Kumawood film industry.
