Dani Alves donned a wig and pretended to be his girlfriend Joana Sanz following Barcelona's elimination from the Champions League on Wednesday.

Antoine Griezmann struck twice as Atletico Madrid prevailed 3-2 on aggregate in their quarter-final against defending champions Barca thanks to a 2-0 win.

It was only the second time since 2006-07 that Barca failed to reach the last four of Europe's most prestigious continental club competition.

However, Alves posted a light-hearted video on Instagram on Thursday playing down the importance of the match while imitating his girlfriend Sanz.

"Hello it's Joana Sanz, I am here to give love to my sweetie, who is very sad," Alves said.

"But love, it's just a game of football. Nothing happens. Life is like this.

"You are worth much more than this. I love you."
