Lynne Doughtie: When you feel you're most uncomfortable, and maybe scared a little bit, and nervous, thatâs actually great because that means youâre growing.
So I think itâs important to take some risk and I think itâs important to ensure youâre getting a variety of work experiences.
Careers are really long. At 13 years it may seem like, âIf I donât do this one thing, my careerâs over.â No â it was just starting.
Even when youâre unsure, there are so many things that made you successful in other areas, that you can apply to new areas.
So being confident in your abilities to be successful in new areas, taking risks, I think itâs important.
I always think about this concept of confidence and how you get it. And it shouldnât just come because you say: âIâm smart and I can do this,â I think it comes from action.
Itâs actually just â jump in, do it, impress the heck out of yourself, thatâs how you get confidence. And then as each new challenge and opportunity comes, you jump in again.
You do it. You say: âOK, I can do this.â And thatâs how the confidence builds.
