Jackson is a four-time world champion in freestyle kayaking, and multiple-time Olympian. His newest passion project, though, is reinventing the kayak as the perfect fishing vessel. What he came up with was the <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ericjackson/apex-watercraft" id="f9ab365f-0b62-32ed-a8ec-a6aacd58081d"> Apex Watercraft Tyr </a> on Kickstarter, and to say the least, were in love.

It took a village, as they say: the Tyr was designed by Jackson with the help of legendary stand-up paddleboarder Bob Blair and Russ Emanis, who ran the composites program at Lockheed Martin for the F-22 jet. The end result: a beautiful piece of kayaking engineering. Sort of the Porsche of fishing kayaks, if you will.

The entire kayak, stem to stern, is made from carbon fiberso it comes in at only 40 pounds. Even the foot braces are made from the stuff.

Stability is key to the kayak, as the vision is to be able to both sit in it and fish and stand up in it to fish. Its designed so you can easily and quickly switch between the two.

The hill of the kayak has a lifting bow, which allows for low drag in the waterletting you glide to your destination. With the open transom, water can run out of the boat without collecting in the deck, so you wont be weighed down as you haul it.

In terms of specs, youre getting almost 13 feet in length, 36 inches wide and 18 inches high. It should be more than able to fit most guys. (The only thing we can think thats missing is a designated cooler.)

When it comes to pricing, well, you better act fast. Early adopter special pledge for this sleigh is $8,250about 20% off the ostensible MSRP, which will be $10,999. (You also get a necklace, cap, and V-neck tee with your pledge.)

A steep price for some, perhaps. But if you ask us, with a summer of social distancing here, theres no better time to fish in the Porsche of fishing kayaks.

It works like this: instead of wheels on either side of the bike, theres a set of carbon fiber hydrofoils. When you pedal it, water passes over the wings, creating a little lift and keeping the Manta5 above the surf. Its technically the same tech they use in Americas Cup sailboats. Science!

Now, you may expect such a dorky thing to look like a piece of junk (Star Wars anyone?), but the Manta5 is super sleek looking. It looks like, well, a nice bike: a clean white body, black neck, and white handlebars.

You Can Actually Cycle on Water With This E-Bike

But just because the Manta5 is motorized doesnt mean it does all the work for youyou get an extremely solid cycling workout. You can actually set how much you want the electric motor to help you out on the water, from low to high assist. You can even ride it in choppy water (just make sure to pound that pedal).

Because its motorized, it does have a batterybut itll last you about five hours on a low-assist mode, one hour on high-assist. More than enough time for a tour, but not enough for a marathon. Plan accordingly.

The downside to all this cool stuff: youll have to drop some serious cash. Which, to be frank, we totally expected. The list price goes for $7,490and you wont get it until the summer at the earliest.

Still, we think of it as the perfect summer splurge. After all, how many people can say they did their summer bike tour on the ocean?

<h1> Train your brain like you train your body </h1>

What does a healthy brain have to do with a six-pack? More than you might think. Learning memory techniques or any mental exercise can help with your overall health, including your bodily health, Dellis says. Having a sharper mind gives you the clarity to help with so many different things. After all, your mind is what's running your body.

Building both starts with a ton of focus and mental energy, and requires consistent exercise. A lot of my training revolves around recreating the things I memorize at the competition, he says. I'll spend a chunk of my day focused on one of the disciplines (memorizing cards, dates, names, binary numbers, etc.), doing drills and mock sets of memorization.

After all, your mind is what\'s running your body.

If its cards, for example, hell do speed drills to get seeing the images of each card as quickly as possible. Then hell practice memorizing the order of decks of cards for time-as many as four to five.

In order to recreate the exact conditions of the competition, hell turn up the TV or music or train in public. Ill do anything to mimic the nerves and elevated heart rate I experience under nerves at a real competition, Dellis says. It's all about recreating what it will be like at the competition as closely as possible. If I can train under those conditions, then at a competition it's just another training day."

<h1> Build towards big physical goals incrementally </h1>

When sizing up Everest or Mt. McKinley, Dellis knows he can't tackle it all on day one. He builds slowly towards his goals. I never really thought [summiting Everest] would even be an option or a possibility, but I was fascinated with the idea of pushing my body to climb a mountain, he says.

I took a course 10 years ago and we summited a tough peak. From there, I made smaller goals for the next one that were a bit loftier than what I had just done.

Big gains don't happen overnight, as anyone who has ever pushed through the early stage frustration of a new gym routine will tell you. They'll also tell you that breakthroughs usually follow from seemingly minuscule achievements. No matter the endgame, slow and steady wins the day.

<h1> Focus on what's in front of you </h1>

Whether on the mountain or in a competition, blocking out distractions is critical to Dellis' success. "When you meditate, you try to focus on one thing and declutter your mind," he says. "That's essentially what I'm doing when I'm memorizing. I'm trying to focus solely on the information in front of me. I need to block everything else out.

Spending some time doing healthy mindfulness or meditation can go a long way to powering your focus and brain health.

<h1> Stop using your phone as a crutch </h1>

Boosting your brainpower can be as easy as memorizing a few digits. The reason many of our memories suck is because we don't try, says Dellis. We rely on devices to be our brains. We put all our phone numbers in our phone and we have apps to keep track of things we want to remember. While that's helpful, its detrimental to our memory.

Dellis recommends trying to memorize phone numbers instead of writing them down immediately, or making a goal of memorizing ten names at the next party youre at. You'll be surprised how much better you are at memorizing when you actually have to or when you focus on the act of doing it, he says.

I feel like I'm more productive and more efficient that way. Dellis finds that spreading out what he has to do keeps him motivated and keeps him going in the long run.

<h1> Put your trust in someone who knows you </h1>

Like so many on weight loss journeys, Hoop didnt know where to start. So he entrusted a buddy who did.

It started off really slow, but he helped me and then I was able to start making some significant changes.

Hoop loves to use the word efficient, and its easy to see why: The guy wastes absolutely no time. Usually Im up at 5:00 a.m. and immediately, within the first five to ten minutes, I go downstairs or go into my five-year-old sons room and knock out pushups and sit ups for 30 minutes, he says.

I then do whats called fasted cardio, he adds. Easy cardio on an empty stomach thats designed to burn fat."

Hoop says this jumpstart revs him up for the rest of the day and sets him up for productivity and success, but he adds that the specifics of what he does are less important than the simple fact that he's doing something. A simple Google search will reveal more fad diets than you can count, but for Hoop, the best plan is the one you stick to. For me, that means simplicity.

Hoop set up a food bank for himself, comprised of pre-set proteins (fish, chicken, steak), veggies (green beans and broccoli), and carbs (sweet potatoes and jasmine rice). Every meal he made for himself used a variation of those ingredients.

Of course, his gang of kids made for a different dietary challenge.

Those Oreo cookies are staring you in the face in the pantry! Hoop says. I had to trick myself into not seeing them. I would put all the kid food at kid eye-level, and my food at my eye level. Thats the first thing I would see [when I opened the pantry] and I would grab that.

On such a strict diet, it can be difficult to get all the nutrients you needespecially if you have a serious daily grind. Hoop supplements his diet with whatever hes not getting.

When youre on a diet as strict as mine and youre not supplementing it with, your energy levels are going to drop, Hoop says. So supplements are important.

Dad is a full-time job for the father of four. Rather than segment or skirt his responsibilities, he brings the family into his health and fitness regimen.

I started this early morning routine because my son, who is now five, would wake up early in the morning. Instead of me doing these pushups and sit ups by myself, I would go into his room and do them.

Through that, he accidentally created an accountability buddy. He would expect me to come into his room, Hoop says. There were days I wouldn't want to get up and do my pushups and sit ups, but he encouraged me.

Family fitness isn't limited to just the boys in the Hooper household, either. My wife and I may go work out in the gym together on a Friday night, he says. Although that may not sound like a fun date night, it can be made fun. You've got to be creative with it and incorporating my family has been important.

Yes, thats right, YouTube. Instead of cranking up rap or heavy metal to drive his early morning routine, Hoops like to hear an inspirational speech.

I listen to or watch motivational YouTube videos while Im working out for that first 20 or 30 minutes, he says. It sets the tone and pace for the day, and I start my day off with a lot more energy than I had in previous sessions.

<h1> Start big goals with small steps </h1>

Big, lofty goals are important to everyones sense of self, but to achieve them, Hoop recommends breaking them down.

After youve identified realistic goals that are both short-term and long-term, youve got to break those goals down into small, manageable steps that are defined and that you can measure, Hoop says. Even if its one workout in the gym, I would log every set and every rep.

That might sound tedious, but that's also how Hoop became a bodybuilder while working a desk job. Might be worth meeting the devil in those details.

As I write these goals down where I can see them, whether I'm in the gym or I'm traveling, as I complete small steps, my confidence starts to increase, giving me a sense of incremental progress going towards the long-term goal," Hoop says.
