The judicial panel of inquiry into the October 20, 2020 shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki tollgate, has called for the renaming of the toll plaza in honour of all those who lost their lives or who were left injured on the night.

Soldiers deployed to the venue of the anti-police brutality protests fired live rounds into the crowd, according to various reports and the <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/lagos-judicial-panel-reports-that-there-was-an-attempt-to-cover-up-lekki-shooting/glvldrz">panel's own investigation.</a>

The panel also established that police officers from the nearby Maroko Police Station, were drafted to the Lekki tollgate to enforce a hurriedly declared curfew and to forcibly disperse the protesters.

In its 309-page report submitted to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on November 15, 2021, the panel "recommends that the Lekki Toll Plaza be made a memorial site for&nbsp;ENDSARS Protest: By renaming to "ENDSARS TOLLGATE."&nbsp;

"The panel recommends that October 20th of every year, is made a&nbsp;"Toll Free Day" at the Lekki Toll Gate as long as the tollgate exists.

"That Oct 20th of every year be made EndSARS day nationally for the&nbsp;remembrance of our falling youth.

"That for the purpose of restitution, healing and reconciliation, the federal&nbsp;government needs to publicly apologise to the youth for abruptly&nbsp;undermining the protest with their state actors."

The panel reports that at least 11 people were killed on the night, with at least 24 others sustaining gunshot wounds.

The world’s richest person, Elon Musk, is estimated to have a net worth of $242 billion, according to the&nbsp;Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Although he is already the world’s richest person, Musk could also become the first member of the trillionaire club.&nbsp;

According to&nbsp;The Guardian UK,&nbsp;analysts at&nbsp;Morgan Stanley&nbsp;have predicted that Musk, 50, could become the world’s first trillionaire, due to his aerospace company&nbsp;SpaceX.

“More than one client has told us that if Elon Musk were to become the first trillionaire… it won’t be because of Tesla,”&nbsp;analyst&nbsp;Adam Jones&nbsp;told the UK newspaper, referring to the electric car company behind the majority of Musk's wealth to date.

“Others have said SpaceX may eventually be the most highly valued company in the world — in any industry,”&nbsp;Jones added.

Tesla remains Musk's biggest asset.

Back in January, Musk overtook&nbsp;Jeff Bezos&nbsp;to become the world’s richest person, only to briefly lose the title back to the Amazon billionaire the following month.&nbsp;

Musk went on to reclaim his spot days later, following the completion of a SpaceX funding round, according to&nbsp;Fortune.

Bezos, who is currently the second-richest person in the world, according to Bloomberg, is estimated to have a net worth of $197 billion, followed by Bernard Arnault ($163 billion), Bill Gates ($133 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($127 billion).

Musk’s fortunes have risen rapidly since the start of last year.

Back in January 2020, Musk was ranked 35th on the list of billionaires, but that year his net worth rose by $100.3 billion, according to Bloomberg.&nbsp;

He became the second-richest person in the world that November.

Bloomberg reported at the time that Musk’s financial surge came as Tesla’s market share hit $500 billion, which was an all-time high for the electric automaker company.

So far this year, the billionaire has increased his fortune by $72 billion, a 42.4% increase from this time last year, Bloomberg reports.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has rejected the military coup in Guinea, describing it as a violation of the ECOWAS protocol on democracy and good governance.

Guinea President Alpha Conde, who won a controversial third term in office last October, <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/world/guinea-president-alpha-conde-arrested-by-coup-plotters/jbc3j35">was arrested by soldiers</a> on Sunday, September 5 and is still in detention in an undisclosed location.

With gunshots ringing round the capital Conakry, the coup plotters announced a dissolution of Conde's government, the constitution, institutions and the formation of a transitional government.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esther Sunsuwa, the Nigerian government said "it is saddened by the apparent coup d’etat in the Republic of Guinea, in clear violation of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

“The government of Nigeria strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government and therefore, calls on those behind this coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect all lives and property.”

Hundreds of people emptied into the streets of most Guinean towns and suburbs to celebrate the coup.

"We are free...today is our day of freedom," a man in a dirty brown T-shirt bellowed before television cameras, as a crowd cheered around him.

83-year-old Conde has been in power since 2010. He changed the country's constitution to win a third term in office.

There may be no place for anti-vaxxers in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, if recent remarks from the boss of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) are anything to go by.

Nigeria rolled out its first phase of COVID-19 vaccination in March and ended same in July.

The second vaccination phase kicked off on August 16, as more COVID-19 vaccines from different manufacturers become available.

Thus far, <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/29-million-people-receive-covid-19-vaccines-in-nigeria-since-march/ms71kbl">2.9 million people</a> have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria.

Executive Director of the NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, says the federal government may not tolerate vaccine hesitancy going forward.

“The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) and the Federal Ministry of Health is exploring ways of making vaccines more available to all Nigerians including federal civil servants and corporate entities," Shuaib says.

"Once these vaccines are made equitably available to all Nigerians, then we would need to have a frank discussion about justice, fairness and liberty that exist around vaccine hesitancy.

“If some individuals refuse to take the vaccine, hence endangering those who have or those who could not due to medical exemptions, then we have to apply the basic rule of law which stipulates that your human right stops where mine begins.

"So, you have a right to refuse vaccines, but you do not have the right to endanger the health of others,” Shuaib warns.

He adds that proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is now compulsory for all pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem; and that unvaccinated people may soon be barred from entering certain countries.

Nigeria has recorded over 191,000 COVID-19 infections since February 2020, with nearly 2,500 fatalities.

Ramon Abbas aka Ray Hushpuppi, has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to engage in money laundering and online fraud, according to latest reports in the U.S media.

Evan Ratliff who writes for Bloomberg, tweets that Hushpuppi "will face up to 20 years in prison at sentencing.

"In his plea agreement, Abbas admitted to laundering money from the Malta Bank heist and the BEC attacks on a Premier League club, another UK firm, and an American law firm, as well as additional schemes.

"Abbas' plea agreement, which involved crimes allegedly perpetrated by North Korean state sponsored hackers, was heavily redacted and many of the filings in the case remain sealed."

Hushpuppi <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/metro/hushpuppi-14-things-to-know-about-how-dubai-arrested-nigerian-scammer/2c3n30p">was arrested by Dubai police </a>on June 10, 2020, alongside 11 other members of his gang which include Olalekan Jacob Ponle aka ‘Woodberry.’

He made his initial U.S. court appearance in Chicago on July 3, 2020 and was subsequently transferred to Los Angeles for trial.

BioNTech, the pharmaceutical firm that partnered Pfizer to hand the world a COVID-19 vaccine in ten months--to global acclaim--is now developing the first vaccine for Malaria, based on the same mRNA technology.

Clinical trials for the malaria vaccine will commence around the end of 2022, Reuters reports.

Millions of Africans live with and manage malaria annually with medication that only reduces the viral load of the mosquito-borne illness.

A vaccine will eradicate the disease and wipe it off the bloodstream.

The Mainz, Germany-based BioNTech, said on Monday that it is also exploring vaccine production in Africa as part of efforts to build up manufacturing capacity on the continent.

"The response to the pandemic has shown that science and innovation can transform people's lives when all key stakeholders work together towards a common goal," said BioNTech Chief Executive and co-founder Ugur Sahin.

Scientists around the world have been working for decades to develop a vaccine to prevent malaria.

Malaria infects millions of people every year and kills more than 400,000--most of them babies and young children--in the poorest parts of Africa.

Malaria is a complex infection caused by a parasite that evades recognition by the immune system.

Sahin said the goal is to develop a vaccine that makes the parasite visible and attackable from the very beginning.

Messenger RNA vaccines prompt the human body to make a protein that is part of the pathogen, triggering an immune response.

They are also quicker to develop than traditional vaccines and can be adapted relatively easily.

"The very high efficacy of two mRNA vaccines for COVID-19 have shown the world just how powerful this technology could be against many diseases, including malaria," said World Health Organisation (WHO) head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who started his career as a malaria researcher.

The world's first and only licensed malaria vaccine, Mosquirix, was developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.L).

Mosquirix was developed after many years of clinical trials across several African countries.

However, it is only around 30% effective.

Malaria kills more than 400,000 people in Africa every year.

The announcement was made by Nigeria's Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed.

"The police inspector was rescued and rushed to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre where he was attended to and discharged, but sustained a fracture on his left hand.

“Meanwhile the reckless driver, Sunday Okodo, 38, of Alose close, has been arrested and his vehicle impounded. The driver will be arraigned today, Thursday, February 25, 2021,” Adejobi said.

In his last and only debate with Biden, Trump mocked his opponent for wearing masks everywhere and at every opportunity.

<h1>An American woman who was lured to Nigeria by a man she met on Facebook, has regained freedom.</h1>

She was rescued after spending more than a year in captivity.

Police spokesperson Frank Mba said her 34-year-old captor had persuaded her to come to Nigeria “under the pretext of love and deceitfully married her.”

However, he then held her captive in a hotel and extorted $48,000 from her, AFP reports.

“He also forcefully collected and took control of her credit and debit cards as well as the operation of her bank accounts including the receipt of her monthly retirement benefits and allowances over the period of 15 months,” Mba said.

The victim is a retired civil servant in the United States.

She was rescued by a Police Intelligence Response Team following information provided by some Nigerians.
