Which Popular Memory Boosters Really Work

<h1>   Your partner might feel lost.  </h1>

<p>Normally, its a good thing to be connected, and the more connected the better, but theres a certain extreme point where you feel like youve lost who you are, says Aron. Youre completely absorbed in your partner, and at that point it becomes uncomfortable and you may want to have some room to be an individual. Spending more time with friends, playing music, meditating, or pursuing other interests on your own can bring some diversity to your life that can make you happy and enrich your relationship. </p>

<h1>  Your partner might have trouble getting close to anyone.  </h1>

<p>Like many other topics in psychology, this issue goes back to childhood. A person who grew up with parents who were unavailable or abusive can end up with an avoidant personality, which means theyre just uncomfortable with too much closeness, says Aron. When two partners both have avoidant personalities, they might both need lots of space. </p>

<h1>  Your partner might just be in an exploration phase.  </h1>

<p>"Our theory and one of the main theories in the field is that one of our main goals in life is to explore and expand oneself, and its really good to do that with your partner, but not all the opportunities are with your partner, says Aron. You want opportunities to do it on your own.</p>

<h1>  Some people just need alone time.  </h1>

<p>For example, some highly sensitive people need downtime, says Aron. They need breaks from everything, including from interaction with their partner, just because they get so easily overwhelmed. Introverts might need extra alone time, too, and extroverts might crave more time in larger groups instead of one-on-one.</p>

<h1>  How to figure out how much space you need in a relationship.   </h1>

<p>Each person defines space a little differently, and the amount needed can vary from couple to couple and from time to time, says Aron. For example, if you travel a lot for work, then when you finally see your partner, you might want to be attached at the hip. But if you and your partner started working side by side from 9 to 5, then your Saturday morning routine might start to involve solo time. Your hobbies might also diverge at times. There are new opportunities that open up that are interesting to you that your partner doesnt share or that wouldnt make sense to do with your partner, he says, and there are other times when youre feeling lonely. </p>

<h1>  How to tell your partner you need space.  </h1>

<p>If you feel like you need space, tell your partner its not that you need to be away from them so much as you need time alone or to do something that doesnt make sense to do together, says Aron. Make it clear that you are pursuing opportunities that will benefit both you and the relationship. You want to build your life stronger so that youll have more to share with your partner, says Aron. Reassure them that youre not looking for an opportunity to cheat or end the relationship. </p>

What 'Needing Space' in a Relationship Means

If your partner utters the words I need space, dont assume your relationship is doomed. People ask for breathing room for many reasons, says Arthur Aron, Ph.D., a research professor in social and health psychology at Stony Brook University. And theyre not all bad. What Does it Really Mean When Someone Says They 'Need Space' in a Relationship?

<p>Your pounding head and sluggishness are largely caused by alcohols dehydrating effects. Drink a big glass of water as soon as you get out of bed. Once you're at work, grab a big cup, fill it with water, and drink through a straw. Its easier to take in plenty of fluid when you dont have to fuss with a water bottle lid, Mangieri says. If youre too nauseated to eat solid foods, sip a smoothie, tea latte, or bowl of soup when you feel hungry so that you consume both fluid and nutrients. </p>

<p>If you can fit in a morning workout, even if you feel like crap, it can help, Mangieri says. Exercise increases your bodys release of endorphins, which can improve your mood and reduce the amount of pain you feel. If you walk into work smiling and headache-free, you might be less likely to catch negative attention from your coworkers. </p>

<p>Youre probably craving something along the lines of a bacon, egg, and cheese burrito, but a greasy meal could make you look and feel worse. A balanced breakfast with protein, fat, and complex carbohydrates is a better breakfast to refuel your body. Try to opt for an omelet with whole grain toast and sliced avocado, or a lean burger on a whole grain bun with all the veggies, says Elizabeth Shaw, MS, RDN, CPT of ShawSimpleSwaps.com.</p>

<p>You might be tempted to rush through your morning routine, but taking a shower is key. Your face might look puffy as result of dehydration and your bodys attempts to conserve fluid, and that puffiness creates shadows that exacerbate any existing dark undereye circles, says Anthony Benedetto, DO, a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. In the shower, gently rub and massage your face to move your muscles and stimulate blood flow. Just waking up and getting back to moving the muscles in your face will get the fluid, the lymph, moving and out of the surface of the skin, he says. Then, scrub down your body to remove sweat, which can contain evidence of your hangover: the odor of alcohol and additives that flavor booze. Bring some fragrance-free baby wipes and keep them in your desk drawer to wipe off sweat during the workday. </p>

<p>Your eyes are bloodshot, and you cant stand the sight of your desk lamp. Thats because the alcohol you drank is breaking down the fatty layer of your tear film, which your eyes produce to stay moisturized and keep your vision crisp, says Ahmad A. Aref M.D., MBA, an associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Illinois. Lubricating eye drops can help to replenish the tear film, he said. Pick up preservative-free lubricating drops, not eye decongestant drops, which can worsen redness in the long run. For more relief, run a towel under lukewarm water and place it over your closed eyes for 10 minutes to help the oil glands under your eyelids release more protective fats.</p>

<p>Sure, you should delete Instagram evidence from last night, but its better if theres none there to begin with. During your night out, give your designated driver your phone or remove social media apps from your phone until morning, suggests Fi Birch, founder of Pro Athlete Online, a firm that helps athletes manage their social media presence. Deleting your apps obviously stops you from posting but also halts notifications that could otherwise entice you to like or share content. Important: Before you remove an app, set up some permissions to reduce what others can do with content already out there, or tagging you in new content, says Birch. That way you wont wake up to a morning surprise that your boss can also see. </p>

<p>One more thing: The best way to deal with a hangover is to prevent it, says Mangieri. Next time you plan to party, eat a big meal beforehand so your stomach is full before alcohol ever hits it, and double fist--one cup of water for every alcoholic beverage--so you stay hydrated, she says.</p>

Sure, partying on a weeknight isnt exactly the best idea, but sometimes its easy to down a few too many beers during poker night or a big game on TV. But when your alarm dings the next morning, youre in for a harsh reality check. You cant undo a hangover, but what you can do is treat the symptoms, says Heather Mangieri, a registered dietitian and food, fitness, and nutrition consultant. Try these tips to make your morning less miserable and hide your condition from your coworkers.
