Headliners include Timi Dakolo who sang ‘Iyawo Mi’, Immaculate who gave the crowd ‘Gogo Baby’, Awadi from Senegal also performed ‘Samina’ and finally ILLBliss a.k.a Oga Boss performed ‘Bank Alert’ to the admiration of the massive crowd who came out to watch their favorite stars. To close the night was the 13man Agbero Bantu band who performed their hit songs back to back.

The International Committee of All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, in partnership with African Union Commission, AUC, has announced a staggering submission of entries with a total of 2,558 for AFRIMA2015 edition at the close of submission of entries on Friday, July 31st, 2015 at 2400hrs CAT.

The entries were received on the AFRIMA website and social media platforms from African artistes, record companies, and music/entertainment journalists from across the continent and the Diaspora whose works were produced between May 31, 2014 and July 31, 2015 in accordance with the stipulated guidelines by the academy of the jury of AFRIMA.

But more exciting are the entries from artistes of African origin living abroad and non-African countries which shows the global recognition of AFRIMA, which is in partnership with the African Union Commission, ONE Campaign and Africa 2.0.

The entries received for the 2015 edition is progressively higher than the 2014 edition of 2,025 entries with 79.2%. Out of the entries received this year, 73 were from music and entertainment journalists across Africa against the total of 38 entries (52.1%) from the same category in 2014. Others entries were from artistes, songwriters, video directors, music producers and record companies.

According to the Chairman, International media committee of AFRIMA, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, “The International Committee is excited about the quality of entries received this year as many were from accomplished artistes in African music. The impressive 2015 edition entries received is a reflection of growth and acceptability of the vision and ideals of AFRIMA’s commitment to communicate Africa to the rest of the world via art, music, tourism and entertainment.”

As part of the adjudication process which will last for 7days, the submitted works will be further screened by a 13-person jury panel which represents the 5 regions of Africa and the diaspora from the following countries: Kenya, Senegal, Republic du Benin, Uganda, Morocco, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, UK and USA as well as a representative from the African Union.

Following the adjudication process, a nomination list will be released to the public on a later date in August 2015 to vote for a nominee in each of the 33 categories of the award.

Speaking on the 2015 entries received, Co-Producer and Regional Director, East Africa, AFRIMA, Mike Strano restated "In line with our integrity, transparency and AFRIMA core values of FACE IT (Fairness, Authenticity, Creativity, Excellence, Integrity and Transparency), we will always ensure that the adjudication process, pre-selection process, the auditing phase, the nomination process, the voting process and the eventual winning stage are all transparent."

We are firm, transparent, and thorough about the whole process. This is All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA and it is our pledge. We will always guide it jealously” He affirmed.

The award ceremony, which promises to be a premium and star-studded event, will take place on November 15, 2015 in Nigeria. It will be broadcast in 84 countries and on 109 television stations across the world.

The AFRIMA Music Village, a 2-day event of music festivities featuring national pavilions, cultural/entertainment exhibitions and music concerts between November 13 and 14, will precede the award ceremony.

There will also be an Africa Music Summit on November 13, themed “Reviving the Business of Music in Africa”. The one-day conference will be a platform for the music industry stakeholders to engage and deliberate on how the industry can be nurtured and be a major contributor to national and continental economies.

Award body receives 2,558 entries for 2015 edition

The town hall meetings, designed to gather leading young people within communities to host meaningful dialogue aimed at tackling important issues facing the continent with a focus on their community, will also spur nominations of young Africans creating change. Taking place in August and September 2015, the meetings will crisscross the continent, taking place across several cities including Durban, South Africa; Dakar, Senegal; Accra, Ghana; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“Young people across the continent are becoming increasingly aware that tackling the issues and collaborating on unique solutions can generate powerful multipliers effect that create wide-ranging impact—not only in their local communities and countries, but also in the rest of Africa,” said Mfon Ekpo, Executive Director, The Future Project (TFP). “We need to ensure these voices are heard and recognised as a rich source of inspiration and ideas that will transform our continent, and TFP is excited to help take these first steps.”

The theme for TFAA’s 10th anniversary is ‘Imagine Africa!’, chosen to highlight young Africans who are fulfilling the promise of the continent by conquering the unlimited frontiers of imagination. TFAA is proud to demonstrate the richness and variety of positive change catalysed by these young ideas.

Nominations are open to the general public for individuals or teams above the age of 18 and no older than 31, who have been able to create incredible impact and well-documented accomplishments within their community and/or globally in the last year. These achievements should revolve around their results, potential for growth plus the ability to inspire other young people in Africa.

The Future Awards Africa (TFAA), Africa’s biggest youth awards, will be touring 10 African cities to host town hall meetings as part of run up to the 10 edition of TFAA set to take place in December.

The concert which will hold at This Day Dome in Abuja, will also feature legendary reggae act, Daniel Wilson, popularly called Mr Raggamuffin, Sunny Nneji, EME songstress, Niyola, Dammy Krane, Yung 6ix and Queen Moda.

According to 2face Idibia, he holds the concert dear to his heart because of the opportunity it will afford him to further display his dexterity, ‘I’m really excited about the concert and cant wait for it to happen. Performing on stage with Sir Victor Uwaifo is like a dream come true for me’, he said.

Sir Uwaifo on his part has assured his fans of an exciting time at the event, ‘It’s going to be an exciting time at the concert. I have been rehearsing for a while now and I just cant wait to show everybody what I can still do even in my mid seventies’.

The show according to Efe Omoregbe, one of the organizers, was inspired out of the need to treat fans from diverse generations to an exciting night with a unique blend of classic African music. He says,

‘We thought to create an opportunity for lovers of good music to come out and network while still enjoying great music from these amazing talents. It’s going to be a great show because it will have these amazing music talents perform not only their songs but also songs of other popular acts as demanded by their fans, so we can have 2face performing a song by Timi Dakolo or Sir Victor making a jazz version of KSA’s songs’ he said.

It was a day of joy for South African artiste, Mkhululi Siqula best known as ‘Heavy-k DRUMBOSS’ as he receives his 2014 AFRIMA Trophy at the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA stakeholders’ conference held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, The Rosebank, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Accepting his award for 2014 “Best Male in Southern Africa” category featuring Professor in “Beautiful War”, Heavy K echoed his words with excitement “At my age winning and carrying this (AFRIMA) trophy, it is overwhelming, like am so excited right now.”

“I just thank AFRIMA and fans across Africa, it means a lot to me. I regretted for not being at the last edition but I will be there at the AFRIMA 2015 edition in November 13 - 15, Lagos” He concluded.

The AFRIMA South Africa stakeholders’ conference featured panelists from Southern Africa region; Artiste, Malaika’s Tshedi Mholo (South Africa); AFRIMA Sponsorship and Communication Director, Matlou Tsotsetsi (South Africa); AFRIMA Jury members from Southern Africa, Delani Makhalima (Zimbabwe); Assistant Communication Manager, ONE campaign, Yannick Tshimanga (South Africa). The panelist from AFRIMA secretariat include Chairman, AFRIMA International Media Committee, Steve Ayorinde (Nigeria); AFRIMA Executive Producer/President, Mike Dada among others from the AFRIMA secretariat.

The conference which brought together artistes from Southern Africa, the media, AFRIMA partners and other music industry stakeholders was centered on the vision, mission and transparent adjudication process of AFRIMA as well as the 2015 AFRIMA Entry Submission which closes on Monday July 20, 2015 and other build up events which include the Africa Music Summit; and the AFRIMA Music Village, towards 2015 AFRIMA ceremony coming up later in November, 2015.

Also receiving an award at the Johannesburg conference, Collin Mokgaotsi, the label manager of Mi Casa on behalf of the group (trio of Dr. Duda, J'Something and Mo-T) for 2014 “Best African Electro” category for track “Jika”, “Thank you AFRIMA for recognizing our work and thank you for bestowing us with the award. The biggest musical concert in Ghana is back for its fifth year with bigger acts set to entertain the whole of West Africa.

The 5th edition under the theme: “Unleashing Unlimited Music” will feature performances from Ghana’s triple threat Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and BhimNation boss, Stonebwoy. Also from Nigeria will be the 7-man Marvins army, who would be in Ghana for the first time as a crew.
