The Ghana Football Association has published the list of approved coaches and their assistants in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

A brace from Percious Boah and goals from Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Joselpho Barnes saw the Black Satellites record an emphatic win over their Tanzanian counterparts on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Speaking at the Post match press conference, Coach Zito stated that he is elated to win his opening match of the competition.

The Coach further intimated that the win will boost the confidence of his players ahead of the next game.&nbsp;

Ghana are known to be slow starters in competition so it’s good that this time around we’ve changed that story”.

“Am happy we won against Tanzania because though we scored 4 goals, it was not an easy match. They have some really good players but in football you are always punished with your mistakes”.

“It’s a good start for us and it will propel the way players for the matches against Morocco and Gambia. It’s also good for their confidence”, the head coach of the side stated at the press conference.

Coach Zito however indicated that though the weather was not favorable for his players, he is confident that they will be accustomed to it before their subsequent games.

“Matches between Ghana and Morocco at every level are always tough. We are both coming into the game as zonal champions so we are expecting a very tough game.”

“For now we will strategize on how to approach the game against Morocco to ensure that we qualify to the next stage of the competition”, he added.

The second group game against Morocco is scheduled to kick off at 7pm on Friday, February 19.

The Moroccans also won their opening game by a lone goal against The Gambia.

Below is how King Faisal defeated Elmina Sharks on Tuesday

Maxwell Abbey Quaye scored in the 21st minute as Great Olympics pip Elmina Sharks 1-0 at the Accra sports stadium to go second Tuesday.

The Dade boys took advantage of a sloppy play from Sharks as they dominated the opening minutes of the game.

Life wire Gladson Awako controlled the ball before sending a delicious pass to Razak Kassim who sent in an intelligent pass to forward Manan Mudasiru. Kasim laid the ball into the path of Abbey to slot home for the opener.

The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Great Olympics.

Back from recess, Great Olympics created some decent chances in search of the second goal but striker Mudasiru Manan and Abbey Quaye missed the two that came their way with Elmina Sharks goalkeeper Lord Bawa Martey standing in their way.

Elmina Sharks then had moments that struck fear in Olympics, with Alhaji Mustapha and Tahiru Mensah coming close but they fluffed those chances.

The victory sends Olympics second on the table as Elmina Sharks’ record their first defeat in the last six matches.

Matchday 14 of the Ghana Premier League produced 20 goals and the big winners were Dreams FC who thrashed Aduana Stars 4-2.

Dreams FC wonderkid Percious Boah netted a brace, while a magical volley by Abdul Fatawu and Joselpho Barnes’ second half strike gave Ghana an emphatic 4-0 win against Tanzania in their Group C opener.

Ghana led 2-0 at half time courtesy a Percious Boah freekick inside three minutes and Abdul Fatawu’s strike from the halfway line. Percious Boah scored again in the second half to grab a brace as Ghana cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win.

Ghana were leading by the break and duly deserved it as they had been the more determined side in attack.

Tanzania’s fight for a goal was dealt a blow in the 71st minute when Boah completed his brace with another sensational strike. The Dreams FC man picked up a cross from Suleymana Mohamed before outwitting his marker to fire a left foot belter past the Tanzanian keeper.

The East Africans attempted to respond but Ghana goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim was on hand to save them.

With two minutes left on the clock, the Black Satellites put the game beyond the reach of Tanzania. Joselpho Barnes sealed victory for Ghana with a calm finish past the keeper after Mathew Anim Cudjoe’s defence splitting pass cited his brilliant run into the box.

The technical qualities of Setif players

The Algerian players were technically good on Sunday against Asante Kotoko. They read the game well by allowing Asante Kotoko to enjoy plenty of the possession and caught them on the break.

The two goals netted by ES Setif of Algeria were both against the run of play. After Asante Kotoko took the lead, they seemed to be in control of the game, but it did not last for long.

Amoura Mohamed managed to move into space and headed home the equaliser before Ahmed Kendouci registered the match-winner also against the run of play.

Abdul Gazale and Johnson Smith are doing well on the local scene by guiding Asante Kotoko to the top of the Ghana Premier League, but they lacked the experience required to coach the Kumasi giants at the highest level.

They were overwhelmed by the experience of Nabil Kouki who is the technical brain of the Algerian side, having previously coached clubs such as Sfaxien, Club Africain and Al Hilal, etc.

In 2019, he was on the technical bench of Al Hilal when the Sudanese giants managed to finish top of a group which had Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup.

On Sunday Kouki proved his worth especially in the second half by making changes which had a great impact on the game when his side were trailing against Asante Kotoko.

And as a result of those changes, E.S Setif managed to score two goals to carry the day.

Loss of concentration

Asante Kotoko had the game under control in the second half. They pressed the Algerians until they finally got the opener in the 69th minute.

However, the Porcupine Warriors lost concentration and failed to protect their goal area.

Amoura Mohamed who scored the equaliser for E.S Setif was unmarked inside the 18-yard box of Kotoko and had the whole moment to himself to head home the ball in the 73rd minute.

Kwame Opoku is the go-to guys at Kotoko:

The former Nkoranza Warriors marksman has shown that he is the go-to man for Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

He extended his phenomenal form in the Ghana Premier League to Africa by netting his first goal in the CAF Inter-Club Competitions.

Opoku had registered seven goals in the Ghana Premier League and is the third leading top scorer currently in the Ghanaian topflight league.

And having announced himself at the continental stage shows that he is establishing himself as the most reliable source of goals for the Kumasi giants.

Many believe he is cast in the mould of Eric Bekoe who was the last player to carry Kotoko on his shoulders by giving the side plenty of goals as well as tormenting defenders with his high pressing football.

Algerian superiority against Asante Kotoko:

The Porcupine Warriors have never knocked out an Algerian opposition in any Africa Inter-Club competitions and it seems history will repeat itself after the Kumasi giants lost 1-2 in front of their home fans.

In 2015 El Eulma of Algeria became the first North African side to beat Kotoko on home soil when they edged the two times champions of Africa 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi in the CAF Champions League.

Kotoko had been kicked out of the Champions League in 2013 Bejaia of Algeria.

After Kotoko lost 1-2 at home it appears it is all over for the Porcupine Warriors, because no Ghanaian club has ever overturned the results in Africa following a home loss.

Five takeaways from Kotoko’s defeat against ES Setif

Asante Kotoko put a spirited performance against ES Setif on Sunday only to lose 2-1 against the Algerian giants.

Coach C.K Akonnor’s team assembled at the Mc Dan park at La where they trained for about one hour, in preparation for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.

The team trained without players of Asante Kotoko who have been excused from this week’s training in order to have enough time for their Confederation cup 2nd leg game against Entente Setif.

Accra Great Olympics quartet, Haruna Jamal Deen, Gladson Awako, Michael Otou and Maxwell Abbey will move to camp on Tuesday after their League game against Elmina Sharks.

King Faisal forward Kwame Pepprah who has scored 8 goals in the League will join the team Monday night after their game against Legon Cities. Goalkeeper Lord Bawa Martey of Elmina Sharks will also report on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

The Serbian trainer was appointed coach of Accra Hearts of Oak On December 1, 2020, after the side demoted coach Edward Odoom.

He sent a good signal to the Phobian fraternity when his charges thrashed Dreams FC 3-0 on matchday 4 in his first game in charges.&nbsp;

He changed the fortunes of Hearts of Oak and they had a run of good results.

However, the Phobians were thrashed 2-0 against Olympics on matchday 11 and went three games without a win (W2, D1).

In all Papic guided the Rainbow club in 10 matches in the Ghanaian premiership where he won four, drew three and lost three.

His assistant, Joseph Asare Bediako also resigned from his post last week citing personal reasons.

Hearts of Oak will now look for a new coach to steer the affairs of the club.

This is the second game involving the Swans that have been deferred after their trip to Blackburn Rovers suffered a jolt last month due to waterlogged pitch.

Ayew who is the deputy skipper of Swansea City has encouraged his teammates to be mentally tough to overcome the difficulties ahead of them.

“The next game will be a hard one,” said the 31-year-old. “We know there's 19 games left and so many points.

“It's a marathon and we need to keep going to the end. The team who is going to be strong mentally and physically will be able to do something great.

“But with so many games to play, I think it’s important that we only look at the next game. And we will do that for the rest of the season.

“We are doing good but we won’t get carried away. We must keep working and work harder because we've got 19 games left and there are a lot of points to play for and get before we can think about anything.”

The Porcupine Warriors shot into the lead in the second half via Kwame Opoku’s close-range strike, but the visitors rallied to score two goals to turn the tide in their favour through Amoura Mohamed and Ahmed Kendouci.

The visitors started the game with much intensity and began to shoot from long range.

Kotoko’s centre backs of Ishmael Ganiyu and Yusif Mubarik did so well to keep the attacking force of the visitors at bay.

The Porcupine Warriors warmed themselves slowly into the game and also threatened E.S Setif goal area.

Naby Keita’s header in the 19th minute following a corner kick by Imoro Ibrahim missed the goal post by some few inches.

Asante Kotoko fans shouted for a penalty after Kwame Opoku was seemingly brought down in the 18-yard box but the referee.

A defence-splitting pass from Fabio Gama found Kwame Opoku and he followed it with a half volley but goalkeeper Sofiane salvaged the situation by parrying the ball away in the 32nd minute.

Imoro’s shot missed the goal post by some few inches after receiving a pass from Fabio Gama in the 43rd minute.

Back from the recess, the hosts continued from where they left off in the latter part of the first half and in the process created some decent chances.

Kwame Opoku was brought down in the box, yet the referee waved his hands for play to continue in the early exchanges of the second half.

Asante Kotoko after persistent search for the opener finally found it when Kwame Opoku finished off Emmanuel Gyamfi’s pass in the 69th minute.

E.S Setif after conceding the opener threw everything into attack and began to keep the Kotoko goal area busy.

Ghacha produced a nice cross which was headed home by an unmarked Amoura Mohammed for the equaliser in the 73rd minute

The Algerians netted the match-winner when Ghacha again set up Ahmed Kendouci in the 80th minute.

Asante Kotoko were awarded a penalty in the late minute after Naby Keita’s strike was handled by a Setif player in the 18-yard box.

Keita who elected himself for the kick saw it saved by goalkeeper Sofiane.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko suffered a 1-2 defeat against E.S Setif of Algeria in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-off on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Kotoko marksman Kwame Opoku registered the opener in the 69th minute before goals from Amoura Mohamed and Ahmed Kendouci in the 73rd and 80 minutes, respectively handed the visitors a 1-2 win.

The Kumasi giants were awarded a late minute penalty after Naby Keita’s strike was handled in the box, but Keita who stepped up for the spot kick saw it saved by the Algerian goalie.

Despite the defeat against E.S Setif board of Asante Kotoko is pleased with the kind of football the players sold out on Sunday and has promised to pay them a losing bonus of GHC 30,000.

''We had promised them GH¢ 30,000 to win but even though they couldn't win, tomorrow [Monday] we will give to them,''&nbsp;Kotoko board member Kojo Boateng Genfi confirmed to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

''This was hard luck because the players played well. The board talked to them before the game. Even though they lost, we are going to pay them bonus because of the way they played not for losing but the way they played,''&nbsp;another board member Kwasi Osei Ofori is quoted by Oyerepa FM.

This is the second time that Asante Kotoko have lost at home this term in Africa against a North Africa opposition: They were edged 0-1 in Accra by Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League.

They have herculean task at hand to overturn the results in the second leg in Algeria against ES Setif. &nbsp;

The Porcupine Warriors historically have been poor against Algerian outfits: They have never knocked out an Algerian side in any CAF inter club competitions.
