Meet the candidates auditioning to replace Johnson- Sirleaf

Over 20 candidates are running in Tuesday's election

2.2 million registered voters will go to the poll on October 10 to elect a new president for Liberia with over 20 candidates vying for the job.

The election,the third in the West African country's history since it emerged from the shadows of a horrible civil war will seek a successor to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf after a twelve year tenure.

It will be the first time since 1944 that a democratically elected leader will hand over power to another elected leader in the country.

Joseph Boakai

The man who has been hand picked by Sirleaf-Johnson served as her vice president for twelve years. He claims he has not been touched by corruption in over forty years of public service. He has listed 57 achievements as part of his campaign.

George Weah

Was a political novice in 2005 but still won the first round of the vote before losing to Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in the run-off. The former captain of the national football team is perhaps the most famous living Liberian . He won a senatorial seat by beating the son of the out going president Sirleaf-Johnson.

Alexander Cummings

A life long marketer who has spent his corporate life with beverage giants Coca-Cola, Cummings is the newbie and is hoping his distance from the established order will give him an advantage.

Benoni Urey

Regarded as the country's wealthiest man, he is the founder of Lonestar Cell MTN – Liberia’s largest nationwide mobile network and tax contributor. He is also a political newbie who is focused on breathing life into the economy.

Joseph Mills Jones

The former central bank governor is hoping to use his track record to convince voters. The U.S trained doctors is nicknamed the "Poverty Doctor. "

Charles Brumskine

A veteran of Liberian politics, he  has history with ex president Charles Taylor after getting into the Senate on his back.

MacDella Cooper

A former model, Cooper is one of Liberia's leading philanthropists. The 40 year old is the only female candidate in the race. She also has past history with another candidate, George Weah . They have a child together.
