You need to try these 7 snacks when you visit Ghana

It is said that there must be some sweets after meals. Here are some Ghanaian snacks you can try when you visit.

From the very complicated meals to the simple ones, a visitor in Ghana can try as many new Ghanaian foods and snacks as possible. Trust me, you will go back wanting more.

1. Groundnut cake (nkatie cake)

This is made from groundnut and caramel (a mixture of water and sugar put on the fire to get a brown shade).

Some people like their groundnuts in whole others prefer them crushed.

2. Egg and pepper (nkosua ne meko)

Yes, this has no pepper in it, but most Ghanaians enjoy this snack. It is sold on the streets as well so you do not have to prepare it yourself if you don’t want to.

3. Coconut candy (akoshie toffee)

A mixture of grated coconut and caramel will give you this beautiful brownish looking snack.

4. Boiled/Roasted maize and coconut

It is usually sold by vendors but you can also make them yourself. Maize either boiled or roasted with salted coconut. You can add margarine if you want.

5. Roasted maize and groundnut (abele ke nkatie)

This is also often sold by other vendors. Do not try tasting it because you will ask for more.

6. Roasted plantain and groundnut (Kofi brokeman)

This is a snack you should not miss. It is sold at every corner in Ghana. You get to choose if you prefer ripe or unripe plantain.

7. Plantain chips

This is one of the popular snacks in Ghana. You can use ripe or unripe plantain. This is also sold on most streets in the country.
