This African country has ordered all unmarried couples to wed by end of 2017

This ultimatum has however been met with mixed reactions as others say the new marriage law infringes on people’s religious beliefs, customs and practices.

The president of the country President Pierre Nkurunziza, in May assented a new law aimed at protecting women as well as creating a more moral society, but some disagree.

Burundi believes that a legal document recognising a marriage helps protect women and their children, especially when it comes to issues such as inheritance.
