Egypt last qualified for the Mundial 27 years ago and it happens to be the second time the football genius led his nation Argentina to the final, but they lost to Germany.

Maradona who has since not witnessed Egypt play at the World Cup has his support for them.

“I would like to greet Egyptian fans. I hope the Egyptian national team can qualify to the World Cup,” Maradona told ON Sport.

“I hope Egyptians can enjoy such a celebration in peace.”

Egypt are in pole position to qualify from group E which has Ghana, Uganda and Congo, since they are leading the table and a win at home this weekend against Congo would let them achieve the long-awaited qualification.
