Black Princesses top striker to miss Women’s World Cup

And with at least a three-month recovery time required, the player will thus miss the World Cup in France next month.

Black Princesses top striker, Princella Adubea, will miss the 2018 Under-20 Women’s World Cup after undergoing surgery two weeks ago.

Her name has been omitted from coach Yusif Basigi’s 23-member provisional list for the competition.

Adubea, who plays Ampem Darkoa Ladies, the Techiman-based National Women’s League champions, has been troubled by a nagging knee injury which doctors say requires surgery after an exhaustive screening exercise. The physicians initially hoped the they could put off the surgery till after next month’s world Cup.

However, after their assessment the surgeons advised that Princella went under the knife immediately at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to save her career.

Her absence will be a big blow to the team as she was joint top scorer with Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade (on 10 goals) in the qualifying competition and was tipped to continue with her exploits in France tournament.

While disappointed he will miss her leading striker at the World Cup, Coach Basigi believes Princella’s future was more important and was thus happy the surgery had been done to correct the injury.

“Adubea’s absence from the team is very unfortunate and will miss her. She scored 10 of the total goals we scored to qualify so there is no doubt about her quality. Unfortunately, injuries are inevitable risks in football for which she has been a victim. My relief is that the surgery has been done and we all hope that she recovers well and pick up from where she left off.,” Coach Basigi
