The crash came just four days after Vonn announced her retirement via Facebook , saying it was time to listen to her body, which she said is "broken" from numerous injuries and surgeries.

On Tuesday, Vonn crashed just 20 seconds into the course, losing her balance as she went over a slope and hit a marker before sliding and crashing into the netting.

Vonn stayed down for a while, but eventually got up and went down the hill slowly.

Here was the crash:

In her retirement announcement, Vonn said two recent injuries, including a previously undisclosed surgery last spring and a torn LCL from a crash in November were affecting her ability to race.

"I am not able to make the turns necessary to compete the way I know I can. My body is broken beyond repair, and it isn't letting me have the final season I dreamed of. My body is screaming at me to STOP, and its time for me to listen," Vonn wrote.

Vonn said her current worry is that arthritis will prevent her from enjoying her post-retirement life, including skiing with her children.
