Tech giant ServiceNow vowed Tuesday not to cut jobs in 2020 amid the uncertainty of the coronavirus crisis.

"We want our employees focused on supporting our customers, not worried about their own jobs," CEO Bill McDermott said in a statement. "We are committed to no layoffs for 2020."

ServiceNow, which offers cloud tools to automate a business' workflow and operations, said it will also continue to support staff and contractors who are not able to work due to the lockdown. The company said it expects to fill about 1,000 new positions this year.

McDermott, a former CEO of SAP who took over ServiceNow in November, has said he expects the coronavirus crisis to speed up the digital transformation of the workplace.

"What we're seeing now is a massive realization that work is never going to go back to what it once was," he told Business Insider last month. "The reality is this is a new reality. This is one of those major moments where everything is going to change."
