These are the top mobile phone brands loved by Africans

Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana all share a common trend when it comes to tastes and preferences for smartphones.

With close to 294 million smartphone users across the Africa, it is worth knowing which brands won the hearts of these users.

A look at some of the large economies reveal a rather surprisingly trend with Infinix and Samsung leading the highest brands.

South Africa

South Africa has the highest smartphone penetration in Africa with 34% with Samsung and Huawei are the most used phones with the Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace on top of the chat. The P8 Lite is the most preferred brand in the Huawei collection.

Nigeria

Nigeria has a smartphone penetration of 27%. Infinix devices are the most popular in the country, taking up 7 spots in the top 10 most common devices. The Hot 4 is the most common device in Nigeria having a market share of 3.3%. TECNO is second on the list.

Kenya

As at September this year, Kenya’s most common device is the Infinix Hot 4 Lite. Samsung has one spot with the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2015) being the most common Samsung device and the third most common device in Kenya.

Senegal

Samsung devices take up 7 of the 10 most common devices used in Senegal with the Galaxy J1 Ace topping the list with a market share of 7.8%. second to Samsung is Itel.

Ghana

Ghana has a smartphone penetration rate of 14% with brand preference in this order; Infinix, Samsung and TECNO. TECNO also shares a pie in the Ghanaian market. Infinix Hot 4 Lite has the highest preference index followed by Samsung Galaxy S5 and S4.

The trend is not so different in Tanzania and Uganda with TECNO and Samsung ruling both countries.
