GES fails to place 36,849 BECE candidates

A statement issued by the Acting Director-General of the GES Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa explained that the over 30,000 candidates who were not placed in any SHS “scored a grade 9 in either English or Mathematics.”

“Out of the total number of 460,941 registered candidates, 424,092 candidates (92%) qualified to be placed.”

The statement added that 267,327 candidates secured places in schools of their choice.

Meanwhile, “150,770 candidates could not be placed in a school of their choice.” Such students are being given the second chance of choosing a school.

“The qualified candidates who did not get a place of their choice should go online and select an option available within 48 hours from today (August 31, 2017)."

The statement finally added that the academic year begins on September 11th and all first-year students are expected to report on the said date.
