Widow is 6 months pregnant with twins for son whose education she singlehandedly financed

The 40-year-old Betty Mbereko has been without a husband for 12 years and singlehandedly financed the education of her 23-years-old son, Farai Mbereko.
Reports suggest that Betty chose to marry her son in order to avoid marrying her late husband’s younger brothers who have been desiring her.

Interestingly, she is currently pregnant with twins and when she appeared before a village court council, Betty mounted a strong defense for the incestuous act.
“Look, I struggled alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong,” she said, warning that “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat.”
Farai cemented the defense by indicating strongly that he was prepared to settle Betty’s bride price that his late father left unpaid to his grandparents.
“I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” Farai said.
He added that “It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”

However, according to mynewsgh.com, local headman Nathan Muputirwa rejected their defense, saying “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed). In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.”
