Football Club invades radio station, assaults presenter and panelists

The angry Real Tamale Unite Football Club led by its vice president invaded Tawasul FM radio station, beat up the presenter and panelists, and crushed many equipment.

Just a day after the shameful assault on a Takoradi-based Journalist by a police officer, there has been another invasion, assault, and destruction of property of a radio station in the Northern Region by concerned supporters of Real Tamale United Football Club led by the vice president of the club.

Reports indicate that the supporters were unhappy about a ‘breaking news’ broadcast during a Sports talk show on Tawasul FM in Tamale regarding a match fixing allegation against the management of the club.

Confirming the incident, Marketing manager of the station Mohammed Waris explained that the host had earlier announced about a discussion coming up about a match fixing allegation against the management of the club.

He said while producers were making efforts to contact the leadership of the Supporters Union who now manage the Club, and panelists sharing their preliminary opinions about the allegations, the vice president and two other muscled men invaded the radio station.

The three angry men according to him, stormed the station and forced their way into the studio while there was a live show on air.

Mohammed Waris alleged that broadcast equipment were vandalized and the Presenter and panelists on the show slapped severally.

He said the attack which lasted for several minutes saw many gadgets including microphones, computers, transmitters and a console crushed.

Earlier, the club’s vice president, Habid reportedly threw insults at the owner of the radio station before unleashing abuses on the presenter, urging the two men to assault him.

A report has been lodged with the Police and a medical form issued to the presenter for medical care to pave way for investigations into the alleged attack.
