Wednesday would have been a happy moment for the defensive minded midfielder if he were alive.

He played for a local side Gt. Olympics and Great Mariners, before getting a deal abroad.

Yakubu Abubakari completed a dream move from Great Mariners to a top-notch Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam in 1999.

The former Ghana international had the opportunity to work udder the legendary Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Ajax

He played a part to help the Black Stars qualify for their maiden FIFA World Cup in 2015, but he failed to make the cut for the finals in Germany.

Yakubu represented Ghana in the 2006 African Cup of Nations held in Egypt, but unfortunately they were kicked out of the tournament at the group stage.

He was also part of the Black Starlets team that finished runners-up in the 1997 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Egypt.
