Medeama's big task to fall T.P. Mazembe as semi finals beckon

Preview of the CAF Confederation Cup game between Medeama SC and TP Mazembe.

Medeama have a mighty ask on Sunday afternoon in their penultimate match of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. The Mauves and Yellows have their home invincibility at the Sekondi stadium under a real threat when T.P. Mazembe walks onto the field with their fearsome history, wealth and team quality.

The task is not business as usual, especially when the result of Saturday's match in Tanzania brightened the chances of the Tarkwa based side to make a step further to the semi finals. Young Africans beat Algerian side, M.O. Bejeia 1-0 in Der es Salaam to open up the spot for the second team to qualify from the group.

Medeama must beat Mazembe to take a bold step towards yet another dreamland before the final contest in Algeria. This nagging headache is what makes coach Prince Owusu recall in pain how his team squandered great opportunities to draw at home to M.O. Bejeia.

"It was not easy, you saw the chances that we had, the efforts the guys (players) put in. I tell you in every two minutes we were right in front of goal, in every two minutes. The whole ninety minutes we couldn't even score once and you see the situation now."

T.P. Mazembe have qualified to the semi finals already but the African giant reckon they are in to defend their pride against Medeama. The DR Congo club are yearning to add the lower tier cup on the continent to their trophy cabinet in a grand style.

Mazembe possesses the top notch player quality to back such ambition with the expected result. However coach Prince Owusu says his team is poised to win the match.

"Our preparations tells me a lot, on Friday we had discussions in the night and I saw how the guys (players) came out speaking, everybody was speaking on top of their voices, everybody is determined for the game. I know we are going to do it.

"The match means a lot, not just even me myself, the whole Ghana it means a lot to us. We have not been to this far in this competition from way back and this is the time that we have to exceed so that they know that still Ghana football exist and that's what we have to do".

Owusu further stated that the job can only be done on the field and not with speech.

"We can come out here and say we are going to win it verbally. But if we don't put it out there, physically and mentally, whatever we must do to win is just talking. If I talk here and say we are going to win and we come here tomorrow and we don't perform to the highest level, we are going nowhere so me I just wait till they blow the whistle and see how my boys will be ready".

Hubert Velud, coach of T.P. Mazembe also shared his thought on the match saying "Medeama is a very good team, tactically and technically they are very good. We've seen them, we've played and we know how they are. We also want to keep our pride, that's why we came here. We are going to make sure we keep our pride by winning tomorrow".

The Lubumbashi based club are unbeaten in five group matches which they arrived in Ghana to extend it. The enviable wealth of the team owned by the country's diamond magnate suggest that such impressive run could be rewarded with an available money.

Velud talks of the absence of pressure on his players, re echoing that it is a fight for their pride.

"The team is not under pressure. T.P. Mazembe has a reputation to protect that is what we going to do and we still want to be the first in the group so this particular match is very important to T.P. Mazembe and Congo as a whole."
