We are in a new music year and as such, Ghanaian artistes have starting making waves to kick-start the year. Some have already reverberated and dropped quite a number of good tracks while others are still in the studio cooking.
Pulse Music correspondent, David Mawuli, has compiled an unranked list of Ghanaian artistes who will make impact in the music industry this year.
Check them out below;
1. Edem
The VRMG label owner has a lot to offer this year after his successful collaboration with Nigerian Afro-pop star, Reekado Banks. I have been following his snaps lately and from what I have observed, Edem may drop an album which would feature top notch local and international acts including Shatta Wale, Efya and Nigeriaâs Skales.
Edemâs paused monthly releases may be continued this year from my observations. The 29-year-old rapper also spends almost all his time in the gym and studio.
2. Shatta Wale
Shatta was the hottest Ghanaian artiste last year. From hits singles to gigs, the âHolâItâ singer who released almost 100 songs and had more than 10 hits has already released 5 songs this year.
I have been following him keenly lately and from my observations, the 31-year-old singer may break his own record this year. The singer already has about 5 pending mixtapes and from the look of things, he may drop them this year.
3. Guru
The NKZ rapper had a pretty good year in 2015 but he is poised to make more impact this year. The âBaba Godâ hitmaker kick-started this year with an enlivening black and white motion pictures for his latest Hiplife track âMeba Be Tia Woâ featuring Kumawood comic actor, Liwin.
Heâs always working hard in the booth and I hope he reigns this year.
4. Kofi Kinaata
After years of denial by the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards board, the High Grade Family label signee proved critics wrong with two hits last year. He kick-started this year with a radio tour to promote his smash hit âSusukaâ and his latest ballad dubbed âSweet Pieâ.
Some of his colleague artistes have started working with him including Mzbel. It seems Kofi may drop an album or EP this year from my observations.
5. Wiyaala
Though Wiyaala didnât make much impact last after winning the âBest Songwriterâ and âBest Female Vocalist of the Yearâ awards at the 16th edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, the androgynous singer has proven she will dominate this year.
Wiyaala only featured on Moroccan singer Ahmed Soultanâs âThis IS Who I Amâ and Ghanaian Hip-hop artiste, AJ Nelsonâs âPower To The Peopleâ but this year, a reliable source told me that she will not feature on any artiste track in order to stay focus.
She kick-started the year with a stunning music video for âLenoâ â a track taken from her self-titled studio album. Letâs hope she dazzles this year.
6. E.L
I canât say much about the BBnZ Live record label artiste because his success continuation has already been projected by many critics. The âSheleleâ singer had more than 10 hit singles last year, organized one of Ghanaâs biggest concerts, âBAR II Concertâ and dropped two projects; âBAR IIâ mixtape and âELOMâ album. âBAR IIâ mixtape will definitely drop this year. Letâs see what he has to offer this year.
7. Stonebwoy
Stonebwoy really enjoyed himself last year. From hit singles to numerous awards, the âMightyleleâ singer managed put Ghana on the world map last year.
He spends almost all his time in the studio recording new tracks and from my observations, Stonebwoy may record the highest hits and tour the world before 2016 ends. Letâs hope so!
8. AJ Nelson
After years of going missing in the industry, AJ Nelson bounced back in a grand style with a Hip-hop jam dubbed âPower To The Peopleâ featuring Wiyaala. He kick-started this year with his youth empowerment programme and health walk.
The rapper revealed in a secret meeting that he will feature about 5 top African artistes on âPower To The Peopleâ remix. I understand the visual for his track will be out this month.
Letâs see what heâs got to offer this year!
9. Nana Yaa
I call her Ghanaâs CĂŠline Dion due to her vocal resemblance and prowess. The daughter of Highlife legend, Pat Thomas, has already hit the ground running with two live band concerts this year dubbed âNana Yaa & Friends Live Concertâ.
I understand she will collaborate with top Ghanaian acts and probably drop an album. Letâs wait to see!
