The American League (AL) Central-leading Cleveland Indians announced they have placed starting pitcher Danny Salazar on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

Newly acquired outfielder Brandon Guyer will take his place on 25-man roster.

Salazar (11-4, 3.38 ERA) has struggled since the start of July, allowing four or more runs in three of his last five starts.

The talented 26-year-old gave up six earned runs in only two innings in Monday's loss to the Minnesota Twins. Salazar underwent an MRI on his sore right elbow on Tuesday.

Despite the recent struggles, Salazar has 133 strikeouts this season.

Elbow injuries are often associated with Tommy John surgery. But, for now, it appears Salazar just needs rest.

Cody Anderson, 25, could join the rotation while Salazar is out.
