Don’t ever just text ‘hey’
The “hey” text seems like a perfectly harmless message to send, but that one word says a lot more than you realize.
It’s generic, dull, and lazy. It makes the recipient feel like they’re not very special or important, and it makes you as the sender seem the same way.
No information is being shared, nothing is being asked of the recipient, and it’s incredibly easy to ignore. A good first text will explain who you are and reference your previous interaction in some way.

- Don’t text in capital letters
Texting in capital letters makes it looks like YOU ARE SHOUTING.
- Don’t overuse abbreviations
Unless you have a rapport with the recipient, it is better to avoid using abbreviations when texting because they may not have a clue what you are talking about.

- Keep yourself occupied
Texting is like a game of volleyball, it requires teamwork to win at the end of the day. Don’t initiate a conversation if you are not ready to chat. Also, keep yourself busy, find a job or hobby to keep you from waiting eagerly by the phone for the other person to reply to your messages.
- Texts are for short messages
Text messages should be precise information not a paragraph from a novel. Texting is not a replacement for talking on the phone, so if your text is taking you more than about thirty seconds to write, you probably should have phoned.
