Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has been appointed to serve on the Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
CAF announced on Wednesday that the football administrator has been appointed to the role, following a successful swearing in.
Afriyie will join South Africa FA chief Danny Jordaan, as well as Zimbabwe FA president Phillip Chiyangwa in organizing subsequent AFCON tournaments for the next four years.
Danny Jordaan will serve as the first vice-president of the committee, with Phillip Chiyangwa ably supporting him as second vice-president.
The swearing in ceremony was supervised by Amaju Pinnick, who serves as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Afriyie was nominated for the position by Kwesi Nyantakyi, and he thanked the GFA boss for after landing the post.
In a Facebook post, the GFA vice president wrote: “A New leadership of CAF has offered me the opportunity to serve on the Continent Flagship Program, The Organizing Committee for Africa Cup of Nations for a period of 4 years. “Thank you President Nyantakyi for the Nomination.”
George Afriyie becomes the second Ghanaian to be appointed by CAF in the Ahmad Ahmad regime, as he joins Nyantakyi, who also serves as the first vice president of Africa's football governing body.
