<h1>Sports in Ghana has been very slow in 2018, but for some individual footballers it was a very eventful year.</h1>

While local football remains suspended due to the fallout from the Anas exposé, there is little that can be said about on-pitch action, especially for the players playing in the Ghana Premier League.

But as a footballer, one is always bound to court controversy with his or her actions and inactions.

These are personalities who have clout and therefore anything they do turns out to be newsworthy to the media.

However, there are some players who have distinguished themselves in 2018 and have been of good behaviour – both on and off the pitch – throughout the year.

Here are seven behaved sports men of 2018:

1.      Thomas Partey

Arguably the best Ghanaian player at the moment, Thomas Partey has enjoyed a very fruitful year.

The midfielder has been a regular fixture for both club and country, and was instrumental as Atletico Madrid won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.

He has also been nominated for both the BBC African Footballer of the Year and the CAF Footballer of the Year awards.

However, Partey has been very well behaved on and off the pitch. This is a guy who has a calm demeanor and that has often stayed as far away from controversy.

2.      Felix Annan

Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan is another Ghanaian footballer who has comported himself very well in 2018.

The youngster has been in and out of the national team, but his consistency on the local scene makes him one of the best in the country.

But despite his status, Felix Annan has often been discrete with his actions, and has always stayed away from controversy.

2018 has been a great year for the goalkeeper and he definitely is one of the best behaved Ghanaian players in the year.

3.      Harrison Afful

Columbus Crew defender Harrison Afful is one of the most conscious Ghanaian players you’ll ever come across.

And in 2018, the right-back did keep his reputation intact both on and off the pitch for club and country.

Rarely did we hear of anything bad concerning the Black Stars defender and that is why he makes this list.

4.      Isaac Dogboe

Ghanaian boxer Isaac Dogboe is also another sportsman who distinguished himself in the year under review.

The 24-year-old has always stayed away from scandals, and despite enjoying a massive 2018, he still remained modest.

Dogboe may have lost his WBC Super bantamweight title to Emmanuel Navarette some days ago, but the way he handled the loss was very professional.

Not only did he apologise for underrating his opponent, but he also assured all Ghanaians that he will bounce back stronger.

5.      Mukarama Abdulai

Enough of the men, it’s time to switch to some well-behaved sportswomen and Mukarama Abdulai tops this list.

The Black Maidens captain played an instrumental role as Ghana reached the quarter-final of this year’s U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

She also finished as the top-scorer of the competition with seven goals, yet she has handled herself well, especially in the media.

Mukarama has not allowed the exposure to get to her, as he hopes to take her career to another level.

6.      Priscilla Okyere

From one female footballer to another, and Priscilla Okyere joins the list of well-behaved Ghanaian players this year.

The Black Queens winger was key for both club and country and despite a disappointing Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournament, she is still rated very highly.

Okyere looks a bit media shy and that seems to have helped her avoid the type of controversies that footballers often attract.

7.      Elizabeth Addo

Another female footballer who makes this list is Black Queens captain Elizabeth Addo. The striker has not had the best of seasons, but she still put in a shift for the national team.

Despite the Queens exiting at the group stage of the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON), Addo was one of the bright spots in the team.

Her performance earned her a place in the CAF team of the tournament. All through the tournament, she was very accommodative to both the media and fans.

In short, she is a very well-behaved footballer who tries as much to avoid any controversies.

<h1>Moroccos Minister of Youth and Sport Rachid Talbi Alami has noted that his country will not be making a bid to host the 2019 Nations Cup</h1>

The North African nation had been tipped as a replacement for Cameroon, who were stripped of the hosting rights last month due to poor preparations.

In June this year, Morocco failed with a fifth bid to host the World Cup - after losing out to a triple bid Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The following month, Morocco did step in to host the 2019 African Games - formerly known as the All Africa Games - after original hosts Equatorial Guinea withdrew due to financial concerns.

This was a twist on a story concerning the 2015 Nations Cup which Morocco had been due to host but which ended up being staged in Equatorial Guinea after the North Africans requested a postponement because of concerns over the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Morocco - which had been widely tipped to step in to host next year's Nations Cup - has only ever hosted Africa's flagship football tournament o nce, back in 1988.

The 2019 finals will be the first to feature 24 teams, rather than 16, and be held in June/July, as opposed to its traditional January/February slot.

The Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) has laid to bare the maliciously fabricated heaps of lies served to Ghanaians by none other than Fadi Dabhousi.

A citinewsroom.com report has said the “GIIF says it has not entered into any agreement with any of the companies under the JOSPONG Groups of Companies for construction of Compost Plants” in some regions of the country.

In an interaction with the media in Accra, a highly-placed official of GIIF denied flatly any funding support for the proposed Compost Plants project submitted to the office by JOSPONG for consideration”. Isn’t that a business man with vision and solutions to waste management problems?

In an article by Fadi Dabhousi titled “GII and Joseph Siaw Agyepong: Marriage of convenience”, and published by www.ghanaweb.com, Fadi suggested that Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi the Board Chairman of the GIIF is in an ardent relationship with Zoomlion and largely Joseph Siaw Agyepong (JOSPONG) to rape the nation by making ‘Joseph Siaw Agyepong a multi-billionaire out of the poor man’s pocket’.

Fadi used unprintable words to describe the innocent Jospong in that article unjustifiably. As an admirer of Jospong the one whose efforts has earned many a Ghanaian, a job and food on the table for that matter, I get angrier when the likes of Fadi a foreigner and Manasseh Azure Awuni the Bongo Boy who are not known for their job creation acumen or national problem solving intelligence, sit down and try to denigrate the Jospong man.

One always wonders why these two people refuse to tell Ghana what they as individuals have done for the people of Ghana and all they do is Jospong this and Jospong that negatively. In the wisdom of the olden, they say the coin has two sides why will Manasseh and Fadi not tell the other side of the Jospong coin.

You tell us (Ghanaians) how black and dirty the one side of Jospong is but never have we read or heard them say however the other side is so so and so. Or they have no idea of that side?

Now, GIIF indicated that, JOSPONG Group in 2017, submitted a proposal for setting up Regional Compost Plant Projects to GIIF for consideration and funding, following which the JOSPONG GROUP was asked to make a presentation to GIIF, which they did sometime last year.

GIIF said the proposal did not go beyond the presentation stage as GIIF had at the time committed its resources to the funding of other equally important pipeline projects. “Nothing happened beyond the presentation stage,” the highly-placed official of GIIF told journalists in Accra.

I have advised Fadi a couple of times that as an elderly person you speak on facts, you don’t perpetuate lies and allegations. I have told him that at his age allegations doesn’t befit him nor hearsays and that he should be factual or shut up forever. But wait a minute is it not the same Fadi who says he operates at the Jubilee House? How then can he get even this one factually wrong? I think it is becoming clear that this foreigner doesn’t mean well for us Ghanaians. He is burnt on pulling down the little we have and we won’t allow that.

Fadi should be telling us what his parents brought from the unruly Lebanon and how he survived on our (Ghanaians) blood till date and he thinks he can direct the pace here in Ghana. He doesn’t even appreciate the fact that we fed his parents and supported them but they trained him this badly. The Kassenas say “The child who has no father siphons wisdom and advise from the parents of his/her friends”. Fadi if your parents failed to train you well because they lack it themselves couldn’t you learn anything from my Ghanaian parents whose children befriended you growing up? See what has befallen from your nose poking into none existent matters. Be advised: you should not chase a snake empty handed when, it turns on you, your hands and legs cannot help you. A wise word of caution from a proud Northerner. Next time you mess up I will get at your parents and you will dislike me even though it is a game.

I am happy that the GIIF called this press conference and made you totally useless and I am told Jospong has already procured six mobile compost plants all by himself, one is being installed at Jamestown currently, two are being cleared at the port and three to be cleared by January 2019.

Each of the regions that is Eastern, Western, Central, Northern, BA Regions among others will each have one to create jobs for Ghanaians and the produce used to boost agriculture if that pains you too go home.

More than eight months after narrowly escaping death while working at Newmont’s Ahafo mine at Kenyase in the Brong Ahafo region, no compensation has been paid to any of the four survivors in spite of the psychological trauma and the mental torture they have been through over the period.

The survivors of the April 7 accident that claimed six lives at Newmont Ghana’s Ahafo mine site are extremely worried about the blatant neglect by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, Consar Construction Limited and DRA Ghana Limited, under whose watch they nearly died.

The survivors of the accident have petitioned some opinion leaders at Kenyase to impress on Newmont Ghana Gold Limited to comply with the recommendations contained in the government’s white paper issued after investigations had been concluded on the accident; and pay them adequate compensations as expected.

It would be recalled that on Saturday April 7, 2018, six workers of Consar Construction Limited, working on a project at Newmont Ahafo mine site at Kenyase in the Asutifi North District of Brong Ahafo died instantly when they were trapped in a mortar meant a construction activity.

The deceased were identified as Kwadwo Asare, Gideon Amankwah, Kojo Bismarck, Ben Brako, Agyei Wale and Ebenezer Sarfo. Four others who survived amidst various degrees of injury, which have rendered some of them seriously incapacitated, are Musa Sulemana, Seth Kwame, Daniel Dzitor and one other person.

They were workers of Consar Company Limited, a sub-contracting firm which had been contracted to construct a reclaim tunnel roof at the Ahafo Mill Expansion Project.

On the Sunday 8th April, 2018 the then Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, led a team of officials from his Ministry and Mineral Commission to visit the accident site at the Ahafo mine in order to ascertain on firsthand the cause and the circumstances leading to the accident.

“Newmont Ghana Gold Limited for failure to ensure the safety of contractor employees working at the Ahafo Mine Site shall pay the fatally wounded and the injured employees the appropriate workmen compensation”, the Committees’ report recommended.

“In addition, the fatally wounded employees should be compensated for their traumatic death, loss of their life and jettisoning of their livelihood.”

Newmont’s loud silence

Even though this reporter contacted the Public Relations outfit of Newmont on Saturday December 1, 2018 through an e-mail; asking for the company’s side of the story, no response had been given at the time of filing this report on Monday December 10, 2018. They only acknowledged receipt but never responded to the queries.

Investigations reveal that Newmont is yet to comply with the instructions conveyed to them by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in the first week of June 2018, leaving the survivors and their dependents to their fate.

One of the victims of the accident, for instance, was seriously injured in the eye and as such, finds it difficult to see.

“I’ve become partially blind as a result of the accident and life is becoming unbearable as the days pass-by; and I’ve been in the house since. They’ve only been paying my monthly salary but have refused to pay any compensation to me or any of my colleagues who also survived”, he said.

An Opinion Leader at Kenyase, who also spoke to our correspondent, said Newmont virtually paid for all the funeral expenses of those who perished and also compensated their families but has surprisingly chosen to totally neglect those who survived the tragedy.

A Committee set up to investigate the circumstances leading to the disaster found Newmont, Consar and DRA Ghana Limited culpable and hence imposed various fines on them and also instructed Newmont to compensate the survivors of the accident.

According to a former Executive Director of the Centre for Geographical Information Science at University of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Amamoo Okyere, Gyan and the thousands of people who live in Weija and Gbawe in the Greater Accra Region should relocate following frequent earth tremors in that part of the country.

“The residents, including Asamoah Gyan living around that area, must consider relocating following the tremors,’’ he told Accra FM Monday.

On Asamoah’s claim to be broke to the extent that he cannot afford to pay the business class ticket for the children as it will include their mother, the court warned against delay tactics, refusing to agree with him.

The court therefore ordered him to file his full bank account details with the court in two weeks.

It might come as a prank but it is real. Moesha Boduong was at the Ghana Challenge 2018 not as a spectator but as a competitor. Ghana Challenge, Ghana's number one obstacle course competition got exciting when Moesha and her team stormed the Bojo beach to compete.

The sports entertainment competition show which will be broadcasted only on StarTimes Adepa TV every Thursday at 8pm, saw the gorgeous curvaceous model having to jump over hurdles, walk on a single log, crawl under a net, do the kangaroo jumping, climb a net, dig her XL size through an obstacle at the hole digging and many more challenges to win the cash prize of up to $5000 at stake.

Moesha's participation was almost like a magnet, pulling other slay queens to also join the challenge. At this point it wasn't about the prize money but bragging rights. It was a great scene to see fine girls with "solid" bodies having to try and bounce over and go under obstacles. Even the camera men covering the competition got confused and lost focus. Imagine how fun that was.

The big question though is this; can Moesha jump the hurdles? Can she climb the net? How did she dig her big booty through the sand? How about the other slay queens? What do they have to offer? Can they walk on the single log bridge? There will be so much to laugh about in the Ghana Challenge 2018.

StarTimes used the Ghana Challenge competition to unit Ghanaian celebrities with their fans as they all participated on a common ground for the ultimate prize.

<h1>Prof. Peter Twumasi is set to become the next Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) after he was nominated for the position by President Akufo-Addo.</h1>

His nomination was announced Wednesday via a statement signed by Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah.

The NSA has been without a substantive Director-General for some months now following the suspension of Robert Sarfo Mensah.

Mr. Mensah was susp ended after he was implicated in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ “Number 12” exposé.

The position was subsequently handed to Majeed Bawa, who has since been operating in an acting capacity.

The Sports Minister’s statement said all governmental procedures will be used to make Prof. Twumasi’s appointment regular in line with the laws of the land.

He serves as the head of the Biochemistry Department of the KNUST’s College of Science and he specialises in plant sciences.

He is, however, not a known figure when it comes to sports in the country.

Prof. Twumasi is a learned man, having has his higher education in both Ghana and the Netherlands.

<h1>Ghana’s Normalisation Committee set up to manage football in the country has vehemently refuted claims that football will return in January 2019.</h1>

The Committee was set up some months ago by FIFA to oversee the running of football in the country following the fallout from Anas’ exposé.

Football in the country has been suspended since the “Number 12” documentary, which implicated over 77 Ghanaian football officials and referees, was premiered.

However, earlier this week there were reports that the Normalisation Committee has reached an agreement with Premier and Division One clubs for football to return in January.

Reports circulating in the local media suggested all parties have agreed to engage in a stop gap competition between January and June as they wait for regular league activity to be sorted out.

But responding to this, Spokesperson for the Committee Dan Kweku Yeboah, says the reports are false.

“The release making rounds is not coming from the Normalization Committee but what happened is that we put together a special competition which was supposed to comprise Premier and Division one clubs to make up 64 teams,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.

He explained further: “After drawing the modalities we met the Chief Executives of the various clubs and they also gave us their take on the matter where they suggested separate competitions for the various Divisions.

“Dr Kofi Amoah asked them to put their proposals on paper for submission, they did so and submitted the proposals last week.

“However, there has been no official response as to approval or disapproval from the Normalization Committee yet so I do not know the source that says an agreement has been reached.”

Going into the encounter, Jose Mourinho’s side are still looking for a win since November 3, while their guest Arsenal will be eager to extend their 20 games unbeaten run in the English topflight.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Mourinho remains upbeat that the Red Devils will hold their own against the Gunners on matchday.
