For the past few months, Selma Blair has been a beacon of hope and spokesperson for anyone suffering from a chronic illness-but recently, Selma found her self in the middle of some controversy after posting a photo online.

Selma, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in August 2018, shared a photo of herself on Instagram earlier this week wearing a headwrap, posing with her friend filmmaker Rachel Fleit.

Selma also posted a follow-up photo of herself wearing the same wrap, this time accompanied by her son Arthur Saint Bleick, also in a headwrap. "See. Its a thing. of love. And warmth," she wrote.

Turns out, however, her followers weren't too pleased with her look-many accursed the actress of cultural appropriation for donning the item as a fashion statement.

You are so wonderful and I know you mean no harm, but this is serious cultural appropriation, one commenter wrote. Id be happy to have a private conversation about how this is hurtful to Sikhs if youre open to it.

This is not brilliant and is not cool, wrote another. White people have scorned Sikhs for hundreds of years, and now we wanna appropriate and make it trendy? No. Just no. We dont get to do this.

Not everyone took offense to Selma's headwrap. My God, its a wrap not a shot gun. You are as always, beautiful Selma," one commenter wrote.

Selma Blair Defends Wearing Headwrap On Instagram

Selma eventually visited the comments section of herself to set the record straight: "This is not at all a Sikh turban or imitating one," she wrote in one reply. And funnily enough, Sikhs absorb negativity, diffuse it. Tolerance. So none of these comments hurt. They may be not knowing what they write. A headwrap can be useful and beautiful in all cultures.

In another, she wrote, Covering ones head is not appropriating anything but warmth and a wig alternative...or whatever makes you want to wear a scarf on head." Selma also went to bat for women with alopecia who choose to wear headwraps: "What do you want a woman with no hair to wear," she wrote. "Just an itchy wig? Why not tie your own scarf and bejewel it. I think it's a pretty alternative."

Also important to note: While Selma herself does not have alopecia, she has been open about <a href="https://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/a27087815/selma-blair-multiple-sclerosis-eyelashes-falling-out/" id="31f0dcbb-561c-31de-ad13-227bec9e48e3"> struggles with hair loss </a> since being diagnosed with MS. In April, Selma revealed that her MS was causing her eyelashes to fall out.

"My right eyelashes all fell out except 3 corner ones," Selma wrote in the April Instagram post. "Just started falling out in left eye so there goes my profile posing...I guess [my] immune system figured it has bigger kid to spank."

Overall, Selma probably wasn't expecting to be called out for cultural appropriation for choosing to wear a scarf to support her friend, but by the looks of her replies, she's clearly not here anyone questioning or critiquing her choices.

But let's face it: While Gab's bikinis are wish-list material, her body's the main focus of her Instagram photos-and it's largely thanks to her pilates routine. A lot of people call it selfish, but I don't have any wrinkles."

"If Im craving a piece of bread or a bowl of pasta, sometimes I just need to listen to my body and indulge. You definitely have to find a balance, though, because eating the right things has incredible health and healing benefits. As for her workouts, Joey told The New Potato that she aims to workout four to five times a week-but that's if she's "feeling really motivated." The actress likes to run and loves to box, because she feels so focused when she's doing it. But Joey, who also starred in Netflix's The Kissing Booth, doesn't just want her appearance to be the focus of her social media account, she said an interview with <a href="https://schonmagazine.com/interview-joey-king/" id="56421e5c-e1a9-3e15-a9bc-7004ba6eab1b"> Schon Magazine </a> , a London-based publication.

<h1> Hold on-what type of treatment is Selma getting? </h1>

"Selma is getting immunoglobulin given via intravenous route, or intravenous immunoglobulin ( IVIG )," says Amit Sachdev, M.D., M.S., associate medical director of the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine at Michigan State University.

IVIG is a medicine made from donate blood fluids and it's used to boost the immune system, according to the <a href="https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/tf2742" id="f437fc7b-b159-3f1f-a926-8e374687b910"> University of Michigan Health System </a> .

IVIG does require the number of donors Selma mentions in her post (anywhere from 1,000 to 15,000), as blood donations are purified to create an immunoglobulin dose, says Sachdev.

Per the University of Michigan Health System, IVIG may improve function and lengthen the time before a relapse in people who have relapsing-remitting MS (when symptoms randomly flare and then improve), but it does not seem to help slow progression of the disease.

While the treatment is used in patients with MS, it is not always the preferred medication, according to Sachdev, because "it does not work as directly on the causes of inflammation in the brain as other medications that are available." It's also incredibly expensive, not widely available, and not considered practical for long-term treatment of MS, per the University of Michigan, which adds that it sometimes may be used to treat a severe relapse.

In her post, Selma shared her gratitude for being able to receive the IVIG treatment. "This is not a sad post," she wrote "Nor am I showing any tubing although I find it all curious. This is me grateful. Thank you universe. Thank you donors. Thank you my friends and all who aim to find their way to feeling their strongest. Whatever form that takes. Love."

In an interview with <a href="https://people.com/food/ree-drummond-new-cookbook-keto-diet-low-carb-pioneer-woman-recipes/" id="75cdb71f-f3b0-337d-aeb7-449640d000de"> People </a> , Ree talked about going keto for a while last summer. "Last summer, I kind of dove into the keto [diet] world and enjoyed it," she said. "It was a good exercise."

Ree's not on the keto diet anymore (she said she's "settled back into a more sustainable, realistic way of eating"), but that keto experience helped shape her new book, The New Frontier, which will hit shelves October 22.

Ree said The New Frontier-her sixth (!!!) cookbook-is "not a keto cookbook or a low-carb cookbook." Instead, it's filled with "suggestions for how to lighten up an otherwise really carb-heavy dish," she said. "Its been really fun to come up with versions of really delicious dishes that you can take a few steps to make them lower in carbs."

Selma Blair has established herself as a full-fledged fighter: Ever since she publicly announced her <a href="https://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/a24063886/selma-blair-ms-diagnosis/" id="deb6dfe5-b226-31bf-a8fc-ee6c4f9bc130"> multiple sclerosis diagnosis </a> in October, the 46-year-old actress has been admirably open about her struggles, emotions, and optimism around battling the disease.

In a recent Instagram post shared Thursday, Selma posted a powerful #tbt photo of herself standing on one leg from a 2001 photoshoot with Interview Magazine. The image is especially symbolic because Selma currently walks with a cane because of how her M.S. has progressed.

Selma insinuated that she wouldn't be able to hold the one-legged pose today, but she's hopeful that she will again in the future. "A leg to stand on. 18 years ago. I will be able to do this again," she captioned the Instagram photo.

Selma also pointed out another change possibly caused by MS since this photo was taken: "It was also before my masseters became so dense with inflammation," she wrote. "Tension. I wonder if I can ever get the jawline narrower again. Hardly one of lifes pressing issues. Just musings."

As far as her inflamed "masseters" go (FYI, that's just another word for the muscles that keep your jaw in place), it's unclear why they might be inflamed, but Santosh Kesari, MD, PhD, neurologist and neuroscientist at Providence Saint Johns Health Center in Santa Monica, California, says it may be due to the overall inflammation caused by MS.

As far as the "tension" in her jaw muscles goes, Kesari says that may be caused by spasticity of jaw muscles (when muscles continuously contract), also caused by MS's effect on certain nerves. But again, all of this is speculation, says Kesari, without access to Selma's medical records.

<h1> I've never heard of epidermolysis bullosa-what is it? </h1>

Epidermolysis bullosa is actually a group of diseases that can cause painful blisters on the skin, according to the <a href="https://www.niams.nih.gov/health-topics/epidermolysis-bullosa#tab-overview" id="685c8029-edc5-36f2-a466-2d2a089cb132"> National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases </a> (NIAMS).

Some people with the condition experience mild blisters, while others may deal with more severe blisters, some of which can form inside the body, in places like the tube that leads from the throat to the stomach, the mouth, and the bladder. In those cases, chewing and swallowing can be difficult, which can sometimes lead to nutritional issues.

Anyone can get epidermolysis bullosa, according to NIAMS, but symptoms usually first appear at the start of life, when patients are babies or toddlers.

While there's currently no cure for the condition, dermatologists and general practitioners can prescribe medications to help to reduce discomfort and prevent infection. In some cases, patients may need to undergo surgery to separate body parts like fingers and toes, that may have joined together by the blisters.

Elizabeth's diet is shockingly normal, if not a tad bit boring. She starts her morning off with two mugs of warm water (#HydrationGoals), but other than that, things are pretty status quo. Here's a sample of her typical meals:

Beyond her brush and bend routine, Elizabeth goes on a brisk morning walk with her dogs and adds yoga and Pilates into her week when she has the time for it.

Elizabeth's lax but consistent approach to staying healthy definitely seems like one worth mimicking. I'll be starting tomorrow morning, so here's to hoping I can squat without getting toothpaste everywhere.

This is the closing line of the <a href="http://www.inmemoriam.ca/view-announcement-2373429-bailey-jean-matheson.html" id="20cd2b4c-0fef-3695-a904-221c75c1e264"> obituary of Bailey Jean Matheson </a> , a 35-year-old woman who died of a rare cancer on April 5. After Matheson's obituary, which she wrote herself, was published on <a href="http://www.inmemoriam.ca/view-announcement-2373429-bailey-jean-matheson.html" id="6f7d777f-8249-301d-a45b-512abfb202ef"> Inmemoriam.ca </a> , it first went viral in Canada (where she was from) and is now reaching people all over the world with its inspirational message. The gist? No matter how long you've got on this planet, make the most of it.

Just as it ends, Bailey's obituary opens with a touching message: "35 years may not seem long, but damn it was good!" Knowing she had just two years to live after her cancer diagnosis, Bailey declined treatment and decided to spend her remaining time living life to its fullest. Throughout the obituary, Bailey thanked her family and friends for their constant love and support.

In 2017, Matheson was diagnosed with <a href="https://rarediseases.info.nih.gov/diseases/6880/leiomyosarcoma" id="c4a509b1-fed7-3845-ac84-882da57ea2d3"> leiomyosarcoma </a> , a rare cancer that affects muscle tissue. In her obituary, Bailey made sure to note her love for her friends, and how they helped her through her disease. As an only child, she wrote that she'd always cherished her friendships more than anything. "I never thought I could love my friends more than I did but going through this and having your unconditional love and support you have made something that is normally so hard, more bearable and peaceful," she wrote. "Thank you and I love you all so much."

Bailey also acknowledged her boyfriend, Brent, who she met on a dating app just three months before her diagnoses. She sweetly referenced their unusual circumstances in her obituary when she wrote, "You had no idea what you were getting yourself into when you swiped right that day." Then, she continued, "I couldn't have asked for a better man to be by my side for all the adventures, appointments, laughs, cries and breakdowns. You are an amazing person and anyone in your life is so fortunate to know you. I love you beyond words."

"Im the mother of two daughters myself. And I wanted to thank her parents, from the bottom of my heart, for having raised such a beautiful spirit," the stranger wrote. "Aloha beautiful Bailey Matheson. You now know the answer to lifes greatest question. Rest In Peace."

Another wrote, "I did not know your daughter but... she sounds like an amazing human being. You must have been so proud of her and distraught with the news and what happened after. I send you my very best and it may seem impossible but I don't think I'll ever forget her. The way she communicated in her obituary with such love an appreciation is beyond words."

Ariana Grande has consistently been a champion of mental health awareness. On Thursday, the singer revealed the impact post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has had on her brain.

Ariana, 25, posted a photo on her Instagram Stories of what looked to be a group text among her and friends. Ariana opens the text by saying "guys...." followed by a side-by-side photo of two brain scans that show what a "healthy brain" and "PTSD brain" look like. The "PTSD brain" has several highlighted areas, where the "healthy brain" has hardly any.

Below that shot, Ariana shows what her actual brain scans look like-all four images have several significantly highlighted areas. Ariana adds that the photo of her texts is "hilarious and terrifying" and "not a joke."

<h1> Hold on, Ariana Grande has PTSD? </h1>

In an interview Ariana did with British Vogue in June 2018, she revealed she <a href="https://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/a21081366/ariana-grande-ptsd-manchester-bombing/" id="5b4fe1e8-73f1-369a-a091-1c49bc88ecff"> suffers from PTSD </a> following the May 2017 terrorist attack during her concert at the Manchester Arena in England.

According to <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/International/23-year-man-arrested-connection-manchester-attack-police/story?id=47578302" id="fadf2348-d4b7-3dd9-a32d-93b1abcfe017"> ABC News </a> , the attack occurred when a suicide bomber motivated by ISIS detonated an explosive device killing at least <a href="https://www.womenshealthmag.com/life/a19994197/ariana-grande-manchester/" id="3c9c55e5-b12f-3b12-a1e6-647fdc205583"> 22 people and injuring many others </a> .

In her Vogue interview, Ariana revealed that the dizziness and anxiety she felt after the Manchester bombings were very much signs of PTSD.

"That's what everyone was telling me," she told Vogue. "It's hard to talk about because so many people have suffered such severe, tremendous loss. But, yeah, [PTSD is] a real thing. I know those families and my fans, and everyone there experienced a tremendous amount of it as well." She later added, "I don't think I'll ever know how to talk about it and not cry."

PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Symptoms of PTSD-like flashbacks, avoiding certain situations, and feeling tense or on edge all the time, among many others-typically occur within three months of a traumatic incident.

PTSD is also pretty common; per the National Center for PTSD, about seven or eight out of every 100 people will develop PTSD in their lifetimes. Women are also more likely to experience PTSD than men, but genes also play a role in PTSD risk factors.

According to the NIMH, the most common treatments for PTSD include antidepressants along with psychotherapy.

As for PTSD's affects on the brain-and Ariana's brain scans-it's unclear what type of brain scan Ariana underwent, but according to a 2010 study in the <a href="https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1741-2560/7/1/016011/meta" id="3acc4e8b-06f3-3ab4-a7dc-e8022c183bbc"> Journal of Neural Engineering </a> , a type of brain scan called magnetoencephalograhy (MEG) can help determine differences in the brains of those affected by PTSD.

For the study, researchers were able to differentiate PTSD patients from control subjects with 90 percent accuracy using the MEG, which as 248 sensors that record the interactions in the brain on a millisecond by millisecond basis (much faster that typical functional magnetic resonance imaging). Along with diagnosing those with PTSD, the researchers were also able to judge the severity of the patients' PTSD.
