A woman from Alicante, Spain recently suffered a life-threatening allergic reaction to penicillin after having sex with her partner, who was taking a form of the medication.

According to <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-6795525/Woman-31-goes-anaphylactic-shock-swallowing-partners-SEMEN.html" id="f2ff674b-c90b-3708-a95b-7d92922bdfcf"> The Daily Mail </a> , the unidentified 31-year-old woman had performed oral sex on her partner, and soon after started to vomit. She struggled to breathe and broke out in hives.

When she went to the hospital, doctors realized she was having a life-threatening allergic reaction known as anaphylactic shock. According to <a href="https://www.aaaai.org/conditions-and-treatments/allergies/anaphylaxis" id="9b05d348-6da5-3031-aba9-33e19c8e6c0a"> The American Academy of Allergy Asthma &amp; Immunology </a> , anaphylaxis can be fatal if not treated.

The Spanish woman told the doctors she was allergic to penicillin but that she hadn't taken the medication. But, it turns out her 32-year-old partner had recently taken amoxicillin, a form of penicillin, to treat an ear infection. As a result, the doctors believe her anaphylaxis was caused by 'seminal transfer of amoxicillin.' The woman had never had this kind of reaction in previous sexual encounters, so her doctors ruled out a semen allergy. But a semen allergy can happen. Really.

According to the <a href="https://www.issm.info/sexual-health-qa/what-is-a-sperm-allergy/" id="d7a80b2a-36fc-33cc-a33b-e3c23d9a4a18"> International Society for Sexual Medicine </a> , a semen allergy (also known as seminal plasma hypersensitivity), is a rare allergic reaction to proteins found in semen.

Women who have this rare allergy, often experience redness, swelling, pain, itching, and a burning sensation in the vagina (or mouth, if you're performing oral). The symptoms typically start 10 to 30 minutes after coming into contact with semen. In some women, anaphylaxis can happen.

And it can crop up at any time: Sometimes the allergy is to one partner's sperm, but not another's, or it may happen suddenly with a longtime partner. Crazy is an understatement!

Doctors who treated the 31-year-old have now urged anyone with drug allergies to 'be aware' of the potential risk from oral sex. Duly noted, doc.

<h1> What is hemp oil-and is it different from CBD oil? </h1>

CBD is a compound called a cannabinoid, says Jordan Tishler, MD, a Harvard-trained doc who is an expert on using cannabis as medical treatment. It can be extracted from hemp or marijuana, two different plants from the Cannabis sativa L. ("cannabis") species. The big difference between the two: Marijuana contains higher levels of tetrahydrocannabinol ("THC"), the compound responsible for the psychoactive properties of pot (a.k.a., the stuff that makes you high). Hemp, on the other hand, is naturally very low in THC (0.3 percent), says Tishler.

<h1> So are there any hemp oil benefits-or nah? </h1>

Yes, and no. Hemp itself is an A+plus source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. In fact, it has the 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 that research shows is optimal for health. <a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10681-004-4811-6" id="f8d76e14-424e-3579-aa1b-74315c50e2ea"> One of those omega-6s is GLA </a> , or gamma linolenic acid, an anti-inflammatory. That's why hemp-based food products, like hemp hearts and hemp milk, are gaining reps as legit superfoods.

Omega-3 and omega-6s have been shown to help treat conditions like atopic dermatitis (a.k.a. eczema), which can leave your skin dry and itchy. GLA in particular has been <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22123240" id="fbf433f8-826f-34cb-a4f3-7b3bb53d1e34"> shown </a> to improve dry skin and eczema. One 2005 <a href="http://www.davoil.ro/documente/efficacy-of-dietary-hempseed-oil-in-patients-with-atopic-dermatitis.pdf" id="45f162d5-b888-3412-a0b5-026f5abff0eb"> study </a> even found people who consumed hempseed oil for 20 weeks had a reduction in oil and reduced the symptoms and appearance of eczema after 20 weeks. But that research is preliminary, Tishler points out.

Fatty acids and GLA may also help curb the physical and emotional pain linked to PMS. Here's why: One of the causes of PMS is a hormonal imbalance that leads to a lack of GLA in the body. <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21241460" id="d258f579-ab1b-3d3a-ae13-2fd34f00345f"> Research </a> on GLA has shown to help alleviate the symptoms of PMS by bringing hormone levels back into balance. But so far, studies haven't found ingesting or slathering on hemp oil itself will have this effect.

Oh, and that ideal ratio of omegas? Researchers in Spain say that composition makes hemp oil high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). A high ratio of PUFAs to saturated fats has been linked to reductions in cholesterol levels and atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries). That suggests hemp oil may have the potential to help prevent heart disease, according to the <a href="https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf404278q?journalCode=jafcau" id="8a8b88b4-0072-3cff-a6ec-ff82800ce2a2"> study authors </a> . But again, none of this has been tested in people.

It probably should be called snake oil, says Tishler. (So...save your cash.) Not only does hemp oil not have any real health benefits, but it may contain stuff that's actually bad for you. "At the moment what you can buy is less regulated than the potato at the supermarket," says Tishler. When hemp oil is extracted, there's a risk that pesticides, plastics, and heavy metals could make their way in, says Tishler.

Which seems like reason enough to hold off on hemp oil until the industry is more regulated.

She had really bad headaches and was sensitive to light. Then she tried to commit suicide in January the same way. We called police the moment we got the email and they got there in time to save her that time.

According to the <a href="https://www.cancer.org/cancer/melanoma-skin-cancer/treating/radiation-therapy.html" id="ff88ffcd-f430-3aac-a0bc-d2da3bee7e84"> American Cancer Society </a> , radiation is typically used to treat when surgery isn't an option for some reason. Other times, it's used after surgery to lower the odds that the cancer comes back.

The type of radiation most often used to treat melanoma is called external beam radiation therapy. It beams the radiation treatment onto the cancer to kill the cells. The process, which isn't painful and is a bit like getting an X-ray, only takes a few minutes. Doctors figure out a treatment schedule depending on where the melanoma is.

Radiation treatment for melanoma can have side effects, including sunburn-like <a href="https://www.cancer.org/treatment/treatments-and-side-effects/physical-side-effects/skin-problems.html" id="a730b33f-3829-3658-afe3-33ad586b1660"> skin problems </a> , hair loss, fatigue, and nausea. Dayanara also understands that she may feel some effects from the radiation: "I might get a bit weak &amp; some muscular pains," she wrote, while asking her followers to "keep praying."

Dayanara didn't say how often she'll need to get the radiation, but here's hoping it works quickly and she feels better soon!

But is the slightly sour-tasting drink really a magic health potion, or just another health fad?

A quick refresher: Kombucha is a mixture of black or green tea and sugar that's fermented with the help of a SCOBY (that's short for symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast). The SCOBY is a blob of live bacteria that sits on top of the tea mixture and turns it into the carbonated beverage you know and (maybe) love.

<h1> What are the kombucha health benefits I should know about? </h1>

Honestly, it would be pretty much impossible for kombucha to live up to every single health claim associated with it. (If it did, you'd be shelling out way more than $4 per bottle.) And so far, research on the drink is scant. <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/1541-4337.12073" id="b882ad54-2421-3359-a51c-140072e5b20d"> One study </a> found the bubbly brew may help lower both cholesterol and blood sugar levels in mice, but researchers haven't replicated these findings in humans yet.

Still, if you break down all the components in the drink, you're still looking at some pretty promising health benefits, says WH advisor Samantha Nazareth, MD, a gastroenterologist who practices in New York City. Some of the goodies you're getting:

Like other fermented foods such as kimchi and sauerkraut, kombucha contains probiotics, the beneficial bacterial that have been linked to gut health, says Nazareth. Having the right balance of microbes in your gut helps with immunity, digestion and balancing blood sugar, and the probiotics in the drink can help identify bad bacteria-the foreign invaders we want to get rid of.

The probiotics in kombucha come from the sugar and yeast from the SCOBY, so they're a different strain than what's found in fermented cabbage, but the benefit is likely similar, notes Nazareth.

<h1> 2. Polyphenols to fight disease </h1>

Kombucha like green and black tea, is rich in polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals and repair damaged cells, says Nazareth. Tea polyphenols may even protect against some forms of cancer and cardiovascular disease, according to <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/19476337.2017.1410499" id="86a4fe87-6734-34c8-a903-f7055f46f72d"> recent research </a> in CyTA - Journal of Food. Tea also contains flavonoids, which have been associated with a lower risk of cancer, notes Keri Gans, RD, author of The Small Change Diet.

<h1> 3. Acetic acid to kill off bad bacteria </h1>

Kombucha also contains acetic acid, an anti-microbial agent that's found in vinegar, including apple cider vinegar (a.k.a. ACV). The acid can kill off bad bugs that enter our systems when you eat, says Nazareth.

<h1> So I should grab a bottle right now? </h1>

With so many nutritional hard-hitters, it's tempting to have a daily 'booch, but experts say that might not be the best idea.

\"Compared to soda, it\'s a better choice, but know you\'re still getting some sugar.\"

When people first started drinking kombucha thousands of years ago, they took it as a shot, multiple times a day, says Nazareth. That was probably a good idea. The Centers for Disease Control <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00039742.htm" id="17ffa287-efae-3e66-a569-4440d130aed3"> recommends </a> sticking to less than 12 ounces a day. (FYI: most bottles contain 16 ounces.) How come? According to the <a href="http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/expert-answers/kombucha-tea/faq-20058126" id="e7f27b2e-8b85-3265-a926-01e9a3480e2b"> Mayo Clinic </a> , kombucha may lead to stomach upset, infections and allergic reactions.

Another reason not to overdo it: Kombucha is made with sugar, so you're getting a hefty dose of the sweet stuff. Popular brands have around six or seven grams of sugar per serving. And don't forget, there's two servings in a bottle. That's 14 grams out of the 25 grams you're supposed to per day, points out Nazareth."Compared to soda, it's a better choice, but know you're still getting some sugar."

"Look for brands that have less than four grams of sugar per serving, and drink them in small amounts," says WH advisor and integrative physician Frank Lipman, MD, founder of the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City. He recommends mixing kombucha with a seltzer water to dial down the sugar content.

Also good to know: Because kombucha is fermented it does contain traces of alcohol, some brands more than others, says Gans. It also it has caffeine, which, as any coffee drinker knows, can make you anxious or unable to sleep when you quaff too much.

If you've so much as set foot inside a Whole Foods, you're familiar with kombucha. As far as drinks that have transcended hipster status go, it's right up there with green juice and coconut water. Restaurants and bars are putting it on tap next to their craft brews. In other words, kombucha has officially arrived. And in the process, it has gained a rep as a health tonic for everything from gut trouble and diabetes to depression, high cholesterol, and even cancer.

As with the original Medifast plan, Optavia ships prepackaged low-calorie mini-mealswhich they call "fuelings" and ready-to-eat snacks straight to your door.

There are more than 60 different portion-controlled "fueling" options including shakes, bars, pre-made shelf-stable meals (like macaroni and cheese)-even brownies. According to the company, each fueling is protein-based and includes a probiotic for digestive health.

This nosh makes up the majority of your diet; the rest is made up of "lean and green" meals full of protein and vegetables (think: grilled chicken and steamed broccoli) that you cook at home.

<h1> What can I eat on the Optavia program? </h1>

According to the company's website are <a href="http://www.optavia.com/weight-loss-products-programs/" id="216af017-f1a8-3697-a0ce-a12106ac3d95"> three different Optiva diet programs </a> you can follow, depending on your goals:

5&amp;1 Plan. On this plan, you eat five "fuelings" per day, and cook one "lean and green" meal.

4&amp;2&amp;1 Plan. With this version, you get four daily "fuelings" and one healthy snack from the company, and you make two "lean and green" meals on your own.

3&amp;3 Plan. This choice requires the most cooking and is aimed at those just looking to maintain their weight, rather than lose pounds. You get three "fuelings" per day and prepare three "lean and green" home-cooked meals.

In addition to the eating plan, Optavia includes access to a coach to help you achieve your goals. Online forums, video chats and weekly support meetings with other members are also available, according to the company.

Exercise is encouraged, though with a "proceed with caution" type of advisory: If you already work out regularly, the program recommends cutting duration and intensity in half for the first couple of weeks. And if you're not exercising already, they recommend waiting two to three weeks to start.

<h1> How much does the Optavia program cost? </h1>

Regardless of which of the above plans you choose, it's not cheap. The kits range from about $350 to $450 per month, according to the website. And, BTW, you'll also have to purchase additional food to make the healthy meals you cook on your own at home.

You should be skeptical of any program that encourages you to rely on products theyre selling you, says New York-based dietician and Daily Burn trainer Nora Minno, RD, CDN. That said, Optavia will probably help you slim down initially, especially if you have a significant amount of weight you'd like to lose, says Minno. "Some folks do well with a strict plan for initial weight loss," she says. And make no mistake, Optavia is strict-some plans only allow 800 to 1,000 calories a day.

That said, Minno doesn't recommend it as a long-term strategy. How come? For starters, following the program is hard if you're traveling or eating out with friends. (After all, nibbling a meal-replacement bar and sipping water isn't much fun when the rest of your friends are enjoying a boozy brunch.)

Also, <a href="https://www.womenshealthmag.com/weight-loss/g19983948/meal-replacement-shakes-for-weight-loss/" id="b7c4da33-0ea7-3b8b-aac8-dc9d3662c32c"> relying on bars and shakes </a> doesnt help you develop the healthiest relationship with food, says Minno. She recommends working with a nutritionist to learn about appropriate nutrition so that you can still eat out, and just make healthier choices.

Minno also notes that while the website claims that Optavia fuelings contain "no colors, flavors, or sweeteners from artificial sources"the reality is a bit different. Minno noticed some of the foods (which are branded as Medifast Classic Feulings) contain acesulfame potassium (also known as acesulfame K, or ace K), which is an artificial sweetener.

Oh, and if you're vegetarian, vegan, or just trying to eat a more plant-based diet, Optavia might not be for you, since many of the products contain animal products, notes Minno.

The b ottom line: Optavia might help you lose weight initially, but for long-term results, you may be better off learning good-for-you habits, bringing awareness to what you eat, and sticking to a diet filled with lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

One of my personal heroes (and if you have a sweet spot for inspiring, badass women who are legit changing the world, probably one of yours) Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (a.k.a., The Notorious RBG) turns 86 today, and fans are celebrating in the best way possible: by planking on the sidewalk outside of the Supreme Court.

The event, 'Plank Like RBG' was organized by clothing company <a href="https://www.the-outrage.com/" id="350349d0-9886-3b44-a088-39d32dbd4010"> The Outrage </a> .

The Outrage's Facebook post reads: "On March 15th, we will take over the steps of the United States Supreme Court to revel in the celebration of all celebrations - aka Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Birthday." The Outrage said the planking mission is to show respect to "THE. MOST. SUPREME. woman who has relentlessly fought for justice for 60+ years."

The video features a man called Leonard talking about the huge pimple (a serious understatement) on his left arm that he calls "Chip." Dr. Lee captioned the video "One of my CRAZIEST cases EVER!!" and boy, she's not kidding.

Leonard says the growth-which started about 10 years ago after he got a scratch on the arm while trimming bushes-weighs about 3 pounds and 11 grams, and has slowly dropped down from his shoulder to his upper arm.

"It used to be solid, almost like a baseball," he says. Now, "it's nasty inside" and people don't want to be around him because of the smell, which he admits makes it hard for him to eat. He eloquently describes the odor as "like 10 dead rats crawling out of a dead ass." Hence, the puking emojis.

I'm warning you, even if you're a fan of pimple popping videos (guilty!) this is EXTREME.

Leonard says the puss has gone from yellow to green to grey-green. Discolored puss can often be a sign of infection, <a href="https://www.aafp.org/afp/2015/0915/p474.pdf" id="7b359d11-a3f4-4a4e-89fb-d80202816009"> according to information from the American Academy of Family Physicians </a> . He notes that his skin has been ripping as the growth has gotten bigger and now it feels like "someone has two pairs of pliers on my skin pulling it apart slowly." Ouch! In a video clip from the show, Dr. Lee says she's never seen anything like it, and that she thinks it could be something "much more dangerous."

I'm no doctor but it's clear that Leonard is dealing with more than your average pimple. Here's hoping Dr Pimple Popper can help him find some relief! The episode airs tonight at 9/8c on TLC.
