Jospong Group partners with Nigerian firm EGTA Investment for rice project in Ghana

The Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nigerian investment holding firm EGTA Investment Limited.

This partnership aims to exclusively identify experts, rice farmers, and value chain players through EGTA to support the Jospong Rice project in Ghana, which is spearheaded by the Asian African Consortium (AAC).

The MoU establishes the general framework for their collaboration, serving as the foundation for a binding agreement to be signed in the future.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria, on Friday, September 8, 2023, the Lead Coordinator for the Jospong Rice Project, Rev. George Tsidi Blavo, emphasized Ghana's vision to transform its economy, shifting from import dependency to becoming a manufacturing and value-added economy. He highlighted the central role of the private sector in achieving this transformation.

Blavo noted that the AAC is committed to contributing significantly to Ghana's transformative journey by partnering with countries and institutions possessing the necessary expertise. He stressed the importance of drawing from Nigeria's experiences and insights due to its geographical proximity and similar economic characteristics.

The primary objective of the MoU with EGTA Investment is to promote the growth and development of various agricultural sectors, including rice production, soybeans, wheat, yellow corn, sunflower, milling, storage, marketing, export, research, training, and related industries.

Managing Director of EGTA Investment, Bashiru Ibrahim, emphasized the concept of cooperation as essential for Africa's future. Under the MoU's technical, financial, and investment cooperation component, they will share technical know-how, bring investment into Ghana, and provide extensive training to ensure adherence to international best practices.

Ibrahim expressed confidence that this cooperation would create wealth and employment in both countries and set an example for other private sector organizations to follow.

Ghana's acting High Commissioner to Nigeria, H.E. Edison M. Agbenyega, highlighted the importance of economic diplomacy in uniting nations through economic activities. He noted the potential for Nigeria to develop its agricultural sector and contribute to food security in Africa and globally.

The enduring brotherly relations between Ghana and Nigeria continue to strengthen through collaborations in various fields, including economics, trade, investment, technology, security, and agriculture.

The Federal Government of Nigeria was represented at the ceremony by Hon. Muhammed Bello, Federal Minister of Water Resources, underscoring Nigeria's commitment to this partnership.
