Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has been arrested over an attempt to blackmail a fellow footballer with a sex tape.

The France international was arrested on Wednesday, November 3 and is being held at the judicial police in Versailes, west of Paris.
The striker according to reports has been place under formal criminal investigation for his involvement in a blackmail of his national teammate, Mathieu Valbuena.
Benzema is allegedly involved in the plot to extort money from Valbuena in exchange for his sex tape.

Former Liverpool strikerDjibril Cisse in connection to the blackmail his Valbuena over the sex tape in October.
Benzema according to , mentioned the sex tape to Valbuena while with the national team in early October and is now under investigation to find out how involved he is in the case.
Police are seeking to determine whether he was teasing Valbuena when he mentioned the tape, or trying to make him pay the blackmailers.
The 27-year-old was last cleared on all charges in an underage sex trail in Paris with fellow French footballer Franck Ribery.
