MMA fighter teaches thief important lesson in martial arts

Stealing is bad, but if you must steal, steer clear of professional MMA fighters.

Monique Bastos taught a thief a lesson in Acailandia, Brazil, Tuesday night, after would-be thieves tried to rob her and two friends of their cell phones, Brazilian news website GoTropa reported.

The robbery didn't go for the criminals as planned.

The two men arrived on two motorcycles as Bastos was on her way to jiu-jitsu training, she told MMAD.

"I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground," Bastos said. "The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one."

As the video shows, Bastos calmly held the man -- later identified as 18-year-old Wesley de Sousa Araujo -- in a chokehold with her legs for 15 minutes until police showed up.

Bastos added she's "been through this a few times before," and decided to fight back this time around.
