James Obeng Boateng, national best farmer, bags $100,000

James Obeng Boateng from the Brong Ahafo has been crowned as the national best farmer.

He was awarded at this year's Farmer's Day which was held in Tamale in the Northern Region Friday.

Mr. Boateng from the Nkoranza South district of the region has been farming for the past 18 years, producing cassava, cocoyam, cereals, okro, pepper, garden eggs, mango and cashew.

The father of six also rears cattle, goats, sheep and manages two fish ponds as well as 100 boxes of beehives.

He has a total of 102 employees comprising of 45 full time workers, 55 casual workers and 2 others from his family.

He was presented with a cheque of GH¢ 480,000 cheque ($100,000) presented to him by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the events 34 edition.

 

The overall best farmer was described as a philanthropist helping to renovate teachers’ bungalows in the district in a citation.

He's also described as a source of inspiration to the youth in Nkoranza who has a good attitude towards agriculture.

Charity Akotia, a farmer from the Central Region was also adjudged the 1 Runner-Up while Alex Frimpong who farms in the Kwahu Afram Plains of the Eastern region took the 2 Runner-Up position.
