The Electoral Commissioner of Ghana, Charlotte Osei has penned an emotional tribute to lynched army officer, Major Maxwell Mahama whose state burial is ongoing at the forecourt of the State House today [Friday, June 9, 2017].

In an  Instagram post, the 48-year-old wrote, “Rest in perfect please Maxwell. May the earth fall lightly on you. May the angels welcome you into the Kingdom with praise and joy. May God comfort and strengthen your parents, your wife, your children, your friends and loved ones. And may your spirit forgive us. May your blood speak Mercy on behalf of this nation and not judgment. Sleep well.

Our Lord and our Father, we come to you today based on the supreme sacrifice of your son and our saviour Jesus Christ. Father, we ask that you comfort Maxwell's family. We ask that you grant Maxwell a peaceful and eternal rest with you.

And Father, we plead for your Mercy over our country Ghana. And forgiveness for this gruesome, cruel sin we have committed against Maxwell and his family. Forgive us Lord and show us mercy. Help us, to never walk this path again. This time, we killed him with stones and sticks. There are many others we have killed with our words, our lies, falsehoods and evil imaginations. Forgive us.

This time, we did it in the morning with cameras recording. Many times, we kill in secret, in the dark, in our bedrooms; concocting lies and evil conspiracies. Father forgive us. Show us mercy. Teach us to help others live and not die. Teach is us to love. Break this demonic stronghold of hatred and bitterness against our fellow Ghanaians.

Father, as your mercies are new every morning, let Maxwell's death not be in vain. Let his life and death guide us to a better way. This is our prayer in the matchless name of Jesus".

The late Major Maxwell Mahama will be buried today, Friday, June 9, at the Osu Military Cemetery.
