Kyrgios, 20, was fined for the incident at the Rogers Cup in August, when he sledged Wawrinka about his girlfriend.
But the pair teamed up at the International Premier Tennis League late in the year, giving them a chance to move on.
Speaking on Thursday, Wawrinka said the duo's relationship was decent.
"I saw him at the ITPL," he said.
"We were in the same team and things were OK."
Wawrinka is starting his year at the Mubadala Tennis Championship, where he will face Milos Raonic in the semi-finals.
The two-time grand slam champion said his focus was on making a bright start to the year.
"I'm happy with the off-season," Wawrinka said.
"I think I did the work I wanted, with enough time with my team to work hard, push the body, try to be ready for the new year and hopefully I can start to play well quickly."
