Russian athletes are expected to learn their Olympic fate just seven weeks before Rio 2016 begins, after the IAAF confirmed its next council meeting will be held on June 17.
Russia was suspended from international competition by athletics' governing body in November last year following allegations of state-sponsored doping in a report from an independent commission established by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The All-Russia Athletics Federation (ARAF) was subsequently handed a list of criteria it would have to meet in order to see competitors allowed at the Games, and June's meeting in Vienna provides the last chance to decide whether they have been successful.
Russia's Olympic chief Alexander Zhukov suggested last month that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would be keen to see his country's athletes compete in Brazil regardless of the IAAF's decision.

He told TASS: "We hope that our clean field and track athletes will be able to travel. We are working on it."
ARAF's new president Dmitry Shlyakhtin said in February: "We believe that our team will perform at the Olympic Games. We hope so."
