South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis is set to miss the start of the Tri-Nations series in the Caribbean after a broken finger cut short his participation in the Indian Premier League with Rising Pune Supergiants.

The Proteas Twenty20 captain revealed on Thursday that he will be out for six weeks, dealing another blow to Pune after Kevin Pietersen was ruled out for the rest of the IPL with a calf injury.

Du Plessis faces the prospect of missing the start of the Tri-Nations series against West Indies and Australia, which gets underway in Guyana on June 3.

He tweeted: "And so my Ipl tournament unfortunately comes to and end. Broken finger and out for 6 weeks.Thanx India and @RPSupergiants it's been fun."
