Two matches in one day proved too much for Kurumi Nara as she was sent packing by Duan Ying-Ying in the quarter-finals of the Jiangxi Open on Friday.

The Japanese second seed was forced to play twice on Friday after her match with Chang Kai-chen was postponed 24 hours earlier due to rain in Nanchang.

Nara came through that contest against the Taiwanese 7-5 6-4 despite dropping serve on four occasions.

However, Duan - who knocked out eighth seed Han Xinyun on Thursday - proved one hurdle too many, as the Chinese secured a 6-1 7-5 victory in one hour and 15 minutes.

“I thank my fans, my supporters, and everybody. I also thank MTN Ghana for giving us this platform to raise awareness and continue helping children with cerebral palsy,” Martha said in an emotional speech after receiving the award.

Awaiting Duan in the semi-finals is Misa Eguchi, who overcame the challenge of Fangzhou Liu in a 6-1 6-2 drubbing.

On the other side of the draw, Francesca Schiavone was beaten 5-7 6-1 6-2 by Risa Ozaki, who next faces Vania King (6) after the American comfortably defeated Zhang Kai-Lin 6-0 6-4.
