Dwayne Johnson, as he's known on his financial reports, was the highest paid actor on the Forbes list of celebrity earners for 2018 , and although he slipped down to number 15 on the 2019 list , he's still the highest-paid actor in the world. He came in behind the likes of Taylor Swift and Lionel Messi.

In 2018, The Rock earned an income of $124 million.

Forbes declared that Johnson's $124 million 2018 income from his movies and Ballers HBO series was the largest ever recorded for acting in the 20 years the publication has tracked celebrity earnings.

Unsurprisingly, Johnson took to Instagram to commemorate the news, echoing his typical refrain of thankfulness for his success and his commitment to hard work.

View this post on Instagram I work extremely hard but never anticipated (in my wildest dreams) Id become the highest paid actor in Forbes history. I dont have a Harvard MBA, but my business philosophy and acumen has been sharpened over time and thru failure. My goal when I was wrestling in flea markets for $40bucks per match (well before the bright lights of the @wwe) is still the exact same goal I have today - ALWAYS put my AUDIENCE FIRST. I have one boss - the world. Send you home happy, and Ive done my job. Im the dude who started w/ $7bucks. Im grateful to the bone and hungry to the core. #MakingForbesHistory #AudienceFirstPhilosophy #FleaMarketDreams #HardestWorkerInTheRoom A post shared by therock (@therock) on Jul 17, 2018 at 9:46am PDT

The Rock's social media presence is reportedly one of the key reasons he makes so much money for his blockbuster films, which can net him up to $25 million per role. He tacks on an extra "seven-figure social media fee" to each of his movie contracts, according to Forbes , which means that all of his tweets and Instagram videos aren't just a way to keep fans in the loop they're an extra stream of income.

That $124 million is a huge sum, but that's just the 2018 contribution to Johnson's massive fortune.

In 2019, The Rock earned $89.4M.

Johnson got massive paydays from films like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Hobbs and Shaw , and he also gets paid from the backend.

Johnson will also star in the upcoming fifth season of Ballers , and he was the host for NBC's Titan Games.

View this post on Instagram Just wrapped JUNGLE CRUISE, for DISNEY and had to shift major gears and to start filming season 5 of BALLERS for HBO. This series has been a helluva learning curve to produce and star in but what will always matter most is you guys making us HBOs #1 highest rated 30min show for years now. THANK YOU for rockin with us. I loved every minute of playing this character, Spencer Strasmore because were exactly one in the same. We look you directly in the eyes when we shake your hand. If we give our word to get something done - it gets done. If you cross us, we rip your jugular out. And theres no problem that tequila (and maybe a few pills) cant help fix #ballers #season5 #hbo #RoyceDa65 A post shared by therock (@therock) on Jun 2, 2019 at 3:48pm PDT

The Rock's total net worth is an estimated $220 million.

His net worth, built up over a nearly 25-year career of wrestling and acting, is larger, estimated to total $280 million, according to TheRichest.com . Forbes , meanwhile, estimates his net worth to be "closer to $165 million."

Whatever the actual number, it's still, like the man himself exceedingly large. With a packed film schedule with movies like Jumanji 2 and even more collaborations with brands like Under Armour , that total will only get bigger. Johnson also recently announced that he purchased a stake in Voss Water, making him part owner of the brand.

Not bad for a guy who started with just seven bucks to his name.
