Final funeral rites held for Dr. Mary Grant [Photos]

Mary Grant entered politics after she was appointed Deputy Secretary for Health in 1985 during the PNDC era.

Hundreds of mourners attended the final funeral rites of Dr Mary Grant, a former Member of the Council of State at the State House.

Dr Grant was interred at a private burial place.

Her service in the field of health as well as her involvement in drawing up guidelines for grassroots political structures led to her appointment as a member of PNDC in 1989, with special responsibility for Health and Education.

Dr Mary Grant was a former Member of the Council of State and former member of erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

She entered politics after she was appointed Deputy Secretary for Health in 1985 during the PNDC era.

In 1997 she was re-elected for another four-year term as a Member of the Council of State.

She passed away on Sunday, September 18 at the 37 Military Hospital, aged 88 and was survived by seven children (two biological) and eight grandchildren.

Among the mourners were former presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Artthur, flagbearer of the Progressive People's Party's Papa Kwesi Nduom, Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho and a cross-section of the public attended the funeral to commiserate with the family.
