Wales lock Jake Ball will see a consultant to discover the extent of a knee injury that could rule him out of the Six Nations.
Ball suffered ligament damage to his left leg during Scarlets' 27-26 Pro12 defeat to Ospreys last weekend and reports on Wednesday suggested he may miss the entire Six Nations campaign.
The 24-year-old is expected to be sidelined for around 10 weeks, but should learn his prognosis after seeing a specialist.
"Jake got hit with a chop tackle and he's got a tear in his ligament. He's going to see a specialist, but he is going to be out for at least a couple of months,"Â said Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac. "We are hoping it is just going to be a rehab job, but we won't know the full story until he has seen the specialist."
Ball tweeted on Wednesday: "Absolutely gutted with [the] injury thanks to everyone who sent messages,
"[I will] be back bigger and stronger in the new year."
Wales begin their Six Nations campaign against champions Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on February 7.
Meanwhile, Scarlets will be without flanker John Barclays against Cardiff Blues on New Year's Day due to an arm injury that will keep him out up to three weeks.
There is more positive news of Scarlets and Wales back Liam Williams, who is set to start running next week as he continues his return from a foot injury that ruled him out of the Rugby World Cup.
