Hamas rulers in the Gaza Strip have congratulated Turkish President, Reccep Tayyip Edorgan for successfully quelling Friday’s attempted coup against his government.

A coup attempt on Friday evening (GMT) that went through the night saw a group within the army try to take over.

The Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Saturday morning said the situation is now largely under control.

Speaking in Istanbul in the early hours on Saturday, President Erdogan promised to clean up the army.

"Those who drive around in tanks will have to go back to where they came from," he said.

Other Islamic Militant groups in the Middle East also condemned the attempted overthrow of the President.

Given Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s support and strong relationship with Hamas, many Hamas supporters took to the streets of Gaza to celebrate the victory of the coup makers.
