The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has launched a scathing attack on governments tax policy, warning that businesses could collapse if government continue to overburden Ghanaians and businesses with taxes.

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings launched the attack when she took her turn at the Institute of Economic Affairs’ (IEA) Conversation Series Wednesday evening.

“The government is telling us only a few Ghanaian pay taxes. The NDP wants to differ. Everybody pays tax on rural water, [National Health Insurance Scheme] NHIS – these taxes are on everything that we buy," she said.

Konadu promised to revise the country's tax system if she is voted into office.

She also bemoaned media reports that businesses are relocating to neighbouring Ivory Coast due to the country's power challenges.

“Some businesses have relocated to neighbouring countries because of energy. Ghana needs to look at developing a sustainable energy,” she said.
