GN Bank reverts decision to suspend sponsorship

The headline sponsor of the National Division One League has rescind its decision to suspend sponsorship for the second tier league.

The GN Bank some weeks ago suspended its sponsorship for the National Division One League, after the coach of Elmina Sharks was beaten in a league game between Proud United and the Elmina based side at the Sekondi Gyandu Park

“We met the GFA and the leadership of the Division One League last week to deliberate on issues. Recently there was disorder at one of the division league venues and because we don’t want to be associated with a brand that could lead to bloodshed, destroy property and even affect the image of our bank we were worried," the Corporate Affair Manager of the Bank, Richmond Kerlson told Moon Light FM in Sunyani.

“As a result of the happenings, we informed them we were suspending our sponsorship until they bring sanity into the game. They have resolved issues at the division one and have even punished some of the clubs who were at the centre of the chaos that rocked the division.

“Four supporters have been arrested for assaulting the coach of Elmina Sharks and have been arraigned before the court. Also some of the leaders of Gold Stars who were also involved in a controversy have been banned. The GFA has assured us that they will send cameras to all league centres to help bring all offenders into book. Based on what they have done and put in place we have decided to reinstate the sponsorship package".

It is worth noting that GN Bank is owned by Paa Kwesi Nduom, who also happens to be the bankroller of Elmina Sharks, playing in the Division One League.
