Ghanaian music artist, Mzbel got a birthday surprise at Happy FM Awards while the likes of Asamoah Gyan and Bukom Banju picked up fan awards
Mzbel who recently announced that she would be marking her 10 anniversary in music next year, managed to get her spotlight on a night when top Ghanaian sportsmen and women had gathered to receive laurels from their fans. She received a surprise birthday cake and champagne during the 2014 Ghana sports Fans Awards, organized by Happy FM. Tony Baffoe was crowned the sports personality of the year.
The awards, which is the second edition, after its introduction last year, saw Black Stars' captain Asamoah Gyan winning the foreign footballer of the year award, whiles Braimah Kamoko, also known as “Bukom Banku”, beat Richard Commey and Joshua Clottey to the boxer of the year award.
Asante Kotoko defender Abeiku Ainooson was adjuged the best Ghana Premiership Player of the Year gong after beating Hearts of Oak's Owusu Bempah, New EDubiase talisman Asiedu Attobrah and ex-Bechem United dribbler Augustine Okrah.
Young athlete Martha Bisssah won the athlete of the year award following her exploites at teh World Youth Olympic Games.
The 17-year-old became the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic gold medal at any level after running a massive personal best and a new national record of 2:04.90 to snatch victory in the 800m final at the ongoing Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China .
