One person was killed after lightning bolts struck five people at Ejila Awori Community High School, Ipatira, in the Ado-Odo/Ota LGA of Ogun State.

Three food vendors, a teacher and a pupil were hit in a single incident around 12pm on Wednesday, 6th of May.

gathered that all five victims were struck under a shade in the food vendors' corner, killing a 50-yr-old fruit vendor, identified as Mrs Felicia Fagbayi.

According to the School Principal, O.O. Oshiname, who spoke with Punch that he was in a meeting with the executive of the Parent-Teacher-Association when the lightning bolt struck.

“While the meeting was on, it began to rain heavily around 11.30am. About 45 minutes after the rain, it began to drizzle," he said.

“Suddenly, a thunderbolt hit and it was so strong that it threw me off balance."

Oshiname said the victims were found lying unconscious on the floor.

“They were all unconscious. It was a pathetic sight,” he said.

He said all the other victims came round, with the exception of Fagbayi.

Worshipers of Sángo, the Yoruba god of thunder, were invited.

Reports say they set up a shrine around the site and allegedly demanded N500,000 as payment for their services.
